That is a question that is best explained by examining the historical perspective. If we go back as far as stone age societies. Finding a mate was not about a male or a female's ability to support themselves. But more about working together to enhance the survivability of an infant. Many preditors leave the newborns unprotected and I am sure that the same thing happened with pre-humans and humans. Finding a protectable location mixed with an everpresent mother's protective "you can _uck with me but don't _uck with my baby", more than likely increase survivability. More ahead to Iron age societies. Strength in numbers was still a working premise. But Government was starting to to impact the way we lived. Some promise of law and order and of course taxes. Womens jobs were considered less strenuous, but childbirth still took it toll on the female population. In colonial America, Men usually had at least three wives in their lifetime. Life was difficult. It is odd that America was formed by a group of rebels who gambled with their lives to get away from English aristocracy, only to try and establish a new one once the funds became available. Victorian America, was probable the start of the insurance concept for women. Marry rich and your all set. But that was not all it was cracked up to be evidenced by the physicians who relieved frustrated women with floor mounted vibrators.
My father was a civil Engineer and Land Surveyor and His survey crew came from many walks of life. Half of them were common law marriages who sent their kid to college. Good people, Committed to the end
Oh and When My Father and Mother got married, my father could not afford a wedding ring So he drilled out a dime which was sterling silver at the time. She wore it to the day she died at 92 years of age. Pop died at 86. They were married 46 years. My wife and I have been married 50 years.
…Submission.
It is a kind of "legal" guarantee that the woman has so that the man only produces for her; the intention is to limit the procreative instinct of man.
This is also how, in case of an unwanted pregnancy, the woman can evaluate the situation and decide whether or not to abort the child, but the man does not have that power of decision, being under the "legal" framework once again submitted to the woman.
hello2.
Maybe if women actually got paid the same as their male counterparts for doing the same work at many companies (i. e., both are engineers with the same duties, requirements, etc.), maybe women would be able to marry men who make the same. BUT many companies still pay women significantly LESS than men for the exact same work... But honestly, some women may marry a man who makes more money because he and she have agreed that she would be a stay-at-home mom when kids come along, and she wants to be sure that she is with a man who is able to support his family financially so she can be there to care for the kids' physical, mental, emotional, developmental needs without worrying if their bills will be paid. :)
All while remaining independent in case he turns abusive and she needs to take half his stuff and the kids,
I'd say you're half right. It's more like A-suurance than In-surance and it's not "merely" all.
For me, marriage is a commitment to the relationship that shows there is a long term plan.
I don't think women get to leave with a man's money in 10 years. Most states split assets 50/50 nowdays. Plus, if he earns significantly more than she does, she risks losing that standard of living should they divorce.
There are pleanty of low income men out there who get married.
Assets shouldn't be split at all. Everything should be legally owned by the person who bought it.
Marriage is a union where two become one. Both contribute. If you prefer to have a companion and keep things divided, I recommend you get a dog instead.
So what about marriages that involve multiple women? Are they all "one"? If one leaves, should one wife get half of everyone else's money?
Those aren't marriages.

the thing is that typically the woman interrupts her career to rise the children. nothing speaks against the man doing that and upon leaving being paid alimony by the woman who worked full time all throughout. it's just that people don't do it. but there's nothing in the way of it.
Top 3 reason why women want to get married.
1. The ring, which the men will pay for
2. The honeymoon, which again men will pay for.
3. The divorce ( Gets his car, his house, and the kids).
As you can see this is why women LOVE getting married.
Men need to avoid marriage at all costs.
Wow. Talk about cynical. I’d have to say that women getting married because of insurance is about as common as men that marry just to have sex.
Insurance for what exactly? If married, women tend to be the one that works AND probably does more household stuff. Not to mention child rearing.
Not for me. I even suggested to my fiance to get a prenup I make more money then him. I would lose if we divorced and he got half
for me personally, marriage isn't all that, it's kinda just the next step in a relationship and i would only marry to get my parents off my back, obviously to someone i love but i would also be happy being long-term
Maybe it was in the past, nowadays there is nothing that stops a girl making her own money.
Any woman that is against prenuptial agreements is a thief. It really is that simple.
Kinda, and 70% of divorces are filed by women, that way women are taking men's money.
Only if the marriage fails and he has to pay alimony
If you are a smart woman you get a big juicy expensive ring and if something happens you pawn that and get TF out.
I love it when guys on here say they're going to stop dating women. Thank you for that.
With that attitude you shouldn’t be allowed within 100 meters of a woman let alone marry one.
That and it's also their retirement plan. You must be a woman in order to qualify. Want it too? Become a transgirl and claim your benefits.
Perhaps when women had fewer options. But not anymore.
With your shitty attitude on marriage, I hope you never get married for the sake of women everywhere.
you must not know what a prenup is...
Marriage is a very bad deal for men.
Yes, and for guys too.
Most of them, yes
