On a dating site, how long should I wait for a reply to my first hello?

This is why I don't do online dating. It's real simple as soon as you feel comfortable with it. Whether that takes 10 seconds or 3 hrs. Making somebody wait for some perceived message it sends is silly, silly on both ends. Those that would make somebody wait or those that would infer some meaning by how long quickly someone responds. If I think someone is making me wait intentionally, I don't care what the reason is. I'm done with her already. Come back when you're ready to actually date I say.👍

Personally, I think those rules are dumb and outdated. I always assumed they existed because of woman but I've seen older dudes get nit picky about small stuff like that. So I guess it's more about conveying an air of you're not just sitting at your computer all day. Or if you are, you're not just staring at the chat window all day... Or if you are, you at least can pretend like you're not.

I've never used a dating site, but if you said hello to someone and they haven't replied within a few days, I think you are safe to forget about them.

Time and tide wait for no man, and neither should you. Contact people that interest you and some may respond. Also try to expand your social circle.

I am not sure there is a hard and fast rule. But certainly not more than a couple of days I would say.
