Does “coworkers aren’t your friends” apply to all social situations?

I fell out with a co worker dropped me off not to my house just to be safe but long story short this guy we both know. Asking me all these questions about him why this and that I just shake my head don’t say anything. Until he’s done talking about how just because you your brother get into a fight does not mean you delete their number. Getting all deep about it saying him and his brother he would help him if needed and this guy literally has a brother I worked with him to so big difference. Now this guy English probably isn’t his first language so but me and this person worked together every day kinda thing. I understood co workers aren’t your friends before I even was old enough to work hearing my parent complain about it so. I just be cool with people I don’t expect loyalty or anything but no matter the job situation I feel this saying goes for all types of areas. Group hangout school military everywhere honestly situational relationships basically. I also think hey if we aren’t talking about each other behind our backs all good move on no problem keep our job don’t bother me.
