My friend is judging me for dating a registered sex offender—what should I do?

I’m dating this great guy that is a registered sex offender. His psycho ex falsely accused him of assaulting her. Although he told me not to tell anyone, I told my “best friend” and now she is judging me.

Basically she said:

- “every sex offender has an excuse as to why they are on there”
- if his ex falsely accused him of sexually assaulting her, why are they still following each other on multiple social media platforms
- “why would you want to deal with someone with that much baggage this early on
- if his former friend got a wired confession from him, clearly he said something to incriminate himself
- “His story makes zero sense”

Now all of a sudden, she is distancing herself from me. She says she’s busy but I see her hanging out with other friends.

2. If real and you're dating a man who was convicted by a jury, sent to prison, and forced to register as a sex offender, you're a fool. Especially if you think he's innocent.

3. Every rapist calls his accusers crazy or liars.

4. IF this is real, I suggest you leave his ass, or stfu about the other women in your life abandoning you, and don't be surprised when he rapes you too.

I'm all for forgiveness, even for sex offenders. Forgiveness doesn't begin with denial. He is guilty beyond all reasonable doubt. The prospects for you if neither of you accept that verdict and waste your time making excuses are pretty bleak... excuses like you put are precisely why sex offenders have among the highest rates of recidivism.

She has every right to not surround herself by people who don't share her values. To become registered as an offender, they likely had to been convicted by a jury of their peers, or was added as part of a plea bargain. Basically unless they are truthful in how they got there through the legal system, it's an excuse.
