There are 4 billion men on the earth. I can't even think of a lovely woman who could be knowledgeable about "most' of them to answer this...

I think my boyfriend from high school called me something that wasn't particularly nice when we spoke once after the fact, but that was so long ago I don't even remember. But it's not a gender issue if that's what you're trying to imply. Insulting whoever just broke up with them is probably a standard coping mechanism to make themselves feel better in the moment. Obviously they don't really mean it or they wouldn't have been with whoever just broke up with them.

I can’t speak for most men in these situations nor the statistics in an universal approach. At least from my personal experiences, none of my exes got mad and “insulting” when I ended the relationship. They were more shocked and sad by it. But for those men or women who does end up “insulting” their partners are typically consider a reaction or defense mechanism response. Because it is commonly rooted from them feeling hurt, protecting themselves, upset, trauma responses in fight mode, and so forth. Break up situations are not black & white. No break ups are easy either.

How to know that? Breakups are very intimate moments, no one but these 2 people are there in such a moment.

Also, to get to the point of insults, it needs a personality able to get to that point. That can't be everyone, and hopefully it's not most men but then again, how to know?

I think they do yes out of anger, my own ex loved the fact that I am always level headed and understanding, I understood why she needed to leave so we always remained on good terms. It was a very painful breakup, but I never took that out on her.

i would say the one who's broken up with tends to be insulting in the process. cause that's how they cope.
