Is it a red flag that this guy wants a first date with no cell service?

This guy that went to my high school messaged me to go out with him this weekend. I recognized his name but I don’t think I’ve actually talked to him at all during our school days and he’s 5 years older than me, which is not the issue. I live in a rural area and so does he. I currently work for my parents so I’m on call all the time and when they call I have to come home and help them with whatever they need. This guy tells me I should just tell them I’m on a date and I’ll be away for a while. What strikes me as a red flag is that he said where we will be going there’s no cell service and my parents won’t be able to call me anyway. That’s a little creepy given I don’t really know this guy at all.

I told him I really don’t trust that plan but he keeps insisting and saying he wants to prove to me that he’s not a bad guy. Now I’m making excuses to not go. He’s not my type anyway.

I think it's a serious red flag and you should either cancel it, or tell him you have to have cell service wherever you go as you are on call. Since he's not your type, I think it's best just to tell him you've changed your mind. Don't give him any reason.

Well, you've given all the reasons why you shouldn't go.

Propose another plan and if he insists, cut off the conversation. The last thing you want to do is keep his hopes up if you know it won't go anywhere.

Yeah, I’m leaving out anything that could be of any type of interest to him and just talking casually with him but limiting how much I talk to him.

I think the smartest thing you can do here I follow that instinctual feeling you are having, it's saved me in situations many times, personally I like to believe that instincts come from guidance of a higher power and if you have to push yourself to actually go then it's best not too, I think the fact that he told you might show good intentions cause he could've just taken you and done whatever there but with that piece of information you somehow managed to get, you should make the best decision and make that decision a safe decision rather than a sorried one.

Just turn him down. If he wanted to prove he's not a bad guy, he wouldn't be pushing for a date somewhere you feel at risk. But regardless dont go anywhere alone with him. Big red flag.

If he's a busy guy and uses his cell for business he may just not want to get interrupted. Tell him all he has to do is turn his phone off or put it on do not disturb and he will be without cell service no matter where you go.

Why do you have to be on call on your day off? I wouldn’t like that line of work but you can turn your ringer down so you won’t be disturbed and don’t check your text on a date and don’t get on your cell phone playing around. that’s rude, but as you’re going home, of course turn the ringer up if you live in a bad neighborhood

I understand why you'd have apprehension, and it's totally fine if you decline. But people who have nefarious plans don't typically tell you there'll be cell service.🤦‍♂️🤣

Cell service was mentioned only because I was worried about being contacted for emergencies and vice versa. If it was in a public place then I wouldn’t worry about cell service but no, this was supposed to be in the middle of nowhere.

Like i said. It's totally fine for you to decline. Any decent guy will understand a woman's safety concerns. Hell it's been my experience that most of the women i go out with, that i'm thinking about her safety more than she is.😆
This is why i find this question amusing. Not because it's not relevant. But because most don't use their head when they want to date a guy.
Bottom line, never worry about offending a guy whereas your safety is concerned. Just be cognizant of how to turn him down. Because a good man is ONLY going to give a woman so many opportunities. Rather than turn him down i'd ask for a different place. One that's more visible, etc. As always if your spidey senses tell you it's too dangerous, LISTEN TO THEM! Their are 4.3 billion men on the planet. There will be another one along.
