Is it a red flag if a guy has his phone facing down on a date?

He had sent a text… I was playing looking at it when he put it on the table then he flipped it over.

I run a small business and my customers text and email me all the time. I can leave my phone for an hour or two occasionally, but if I do that too often, I'd lose them as customers. Thus, I can't just leave my phone behind on a 6-hour date night (I SO wish I could).

So, I would occasionally look at my phone, but most of the time, I'd have it set down and screen off, so that I could be "in the moment" with my girlfriend. I don't have other girls texting me, I have clients complaining that their TV isn't working or their Internet is slow or something like that. And 99% of the time, it's a quick fix, but I *do* have to deal with it in a reasonable amount of time.

Obviously not everyone is in my situation, but you shouldn't just jump to conclusions either.

I always put my phone face down when I'm having a conversation in real life. Always saw it as a respect thing. I'm paying attention to you, not my phone.

No, I always put my phone face down when I’m out with my boyfriend or anyone else for that matter because I like to be present. Seeing a notification pop up on my phone can be distracting.

He may have done that so you can focus on being with you. Phones can be crazy distracting. My boyfriend does it all the time so he can focus on me. Does he do it all the time or was this unusual?

Yes. I mean, I’m speaking from experience. I can’t speak from other guys. But normally I keep my phone face up so I can see what others are sending me.

Unless I get an urgent call, I leave my phone in its case on my side usually. I think it's rude to play on your phone while on a date with someone.
