Why do people act like I’m wrong for backing off after rejection at work?

yeah at work you not supposed to talk to anyone I wasn’t going to because I feel it’s weird just talking to someone without a reason to know them especially women at work. If she was the one starting the conversation ok but I’m not looking for it let’s make a long story short I’m looking at a girl I told my associate about. So next day she walks out he says something to her and it’s like he already knows her she is smiling talking to him so I just keep my mouth shut. So I can tell when I looked at her she was giving the look of. Discomfort so I decided to take the hint from there didn’t even have to try so I go inside for my shift she’s at the front desk I go to the break room grab a snack as I’m leaving she’s coming in. Funny how life has a way of throwing things in your face but I tell my co worker about it giving him the update he’s like oh that was your chance. I proceeded to tell him hey man she wasn’t interested I’m letting it go and it’s like some people just don’t get it it’s like they think I don’t try or anything like it’s weird for me to take the rejection or something. Hey I seen she was into my guy so I’m just staying in my lane and separating myself from the situation before I embarrass myself.
