When you decline someone for a date and they ask why, do you tell them the real reason?

I hate when people ask. I get the curiosity, but it doesn’t actually matter why!

Only if it someone I know, then I am honest. If it is a stranger, I do not know how they’ll react so I just try to let them down as nicely as possible. Some do not take the rejection well…

I usually don't and if I do I keep it very general. People who ask are often the type who then start arguing and think they can change your mind so I like to avoid that.

I usually do have a good reason to decline a date. I won't make something up. I won't pretend I'm suddenly busy. I will show a text message to the guy if a friend/colleague legit calls to ask me for assistance while I'm on the date, but then I text back to say I'll join them in [designated date end time, usually within an hour] out of respect for both the friend and the date.

“No” is the reason, and the only answer you need. No is a one word, complete sentence. If it were a YES there’d be no questions asked.

I don't know. That usually doesn't happened to me. In school I would just run away from them. And onlines, I'll just start being an asshole to them, so they hate me,

At my last job some lady tried to set me up with her disabled niece, while she was still in a relationship with her abusive boyfriend and even wanted to call her. I don't even remember what I told her or how I got rid of her, 'cuz I don't like to be mean, in real life

Depends on the reason. I noticed though that often them asking why and you giving an actual answer it just leads to them trying to convince you to give them another chance or explain to you why you’re wrong for rejecting them. Some people even get angry, defensive and verbally abusive. So, usually I say something vague like I’m just not feeling it unfortunately so I know this wouldn’t lead to a relationship, or I’m not feeling anything more than friendship, but I wish you the best.

I just say we are not compatible. And wish them luck with their journey. No hard feelings most get it.
