Jobs: Things betwixt Part 1

Jobs: Things betwixt Part 1

1. The true power of human resources

Just because it has the word "human", it doesn't mean they are in your favor. Human resources are there to protect a company/business's goals and assets, not you. So if a higher up such as a manager misbehaves, then he/she might get spanked and thats about it. Bite your tongue and swallow your pride.

The don'ts: Never threaten to file a lawsuit. Unless you are except from a "fire at will" employment, you should never consider any kind of threats. 1 false rape accusation and you are out of the game, forever. 2 lawsuits filed against any company or business (practical, mediated or settled in private) and your out of the game, forever.

2. How much do you think you are worth?

There is no sugar coating when I say that company's and business's main goal is money. Either you have the skills and creativity to make more money for your employer OR have the skills and ideas to save money and cut spending without sacrificing performance. The person that is part of 0.5% who have the skills to save money is worth 10 times as much as the person who can rack up bank.

Comparison in war: The person who racks up bank is to war hero and the person who can save money is to a talented strategist.

The do's: If you ever want to expand the horizon, make a name for yourself, then trying to become one of the two people above is what you want to aim for. You need to master your time management skills. Mastering your craft wether it be repairing cars or encoding, takes practice. Skill is only developed through hours and hours of practice. Open your mind and try to put yourself on other people's shoes. Creating a plan is easy, becoming a strategist requires you to have an imaginative mind, hear the world, and listen to the world.

3. Don't be yourself!

Say what? Yes don't be your regular self. Talking back or passive-aggressive comments to your supervisors is not confidence nor does it portray any sign of strength, it is actually arrogance. When a police officer puts his/her uniform then they are representing the law and are out there to enforce the law. When they take them off, then they can go back to their normal selves whilst still lead a lawful life.

The feeing of being "part of something" is one of those pursuits in life. We want to have a deeper meaning than just doing the same routine every single day. How do we achieve this? The first step is earning your place and gaining trust. My 2 cents is that you have not gained your employer's trust unless you have shaken the company owner's hands. For them to travel a long way just to congratulate you on your performance or promotion is something very deep.

The do's: Put on your best mask. Be an inspiration no matter what your position is. Be the one who will make the higher ups have a second thought when it comes to lay overs, just because it will make them feel as if the workplace is different without you.

"I don't know the dream that you have. I don't care how disappointing it might have been, as you've been working towards the dream. But here's what I know, that, that dream you've been holding in your mind. That's its possible. You see sometimes we can't say I can do that, but what can say...is that its possible".
