Anxious About Going to School or Entering a New Environment?

Growing up I've always been anxious to try new things. As I matured, I realized that these feelings were probably consistent with the fear of being judged or not fitting in.

When encountering new situations, it is important to consider the following:

1. Chances are there are people around you that feel just as awkward or anxious as you do.

Even if you observe that cliques have already been established, there is a high possibility that you aren't the only new one. It is a win-win situation. You can talk to someone new and make one new friend or talk to someone who is used to that environment and they will eventually introduce you to their associates.

2. You have to break the ice.

After you break the ice conversation flows much easier. The most useful advice that I've heard about mingling with large groups is that people really like to talk about them selves. You can ask questions like 'Have you been here before?.' You could also find out if you have similar interest if you don't feel comfortable about talking about yourself.

3. You are placed in certain situations because you deserve to be there.

If you are cordial to someone and they respond in a cold way or act bitterly towards you, kill them with kindness. Continue to be respectful and remember that you don't have to chase them because that's not the type of people you should want in your life.

I hope this helps #newgirl #newguy #newschool
