Lying is something that can come back to haunt you later on. I have heard that many people lie on their resumes / job applications. I am as honest as I can be since I don't want to have to worry about something coming back to bite me in the ass 6 months from now or five years from now. I don't want to have my job on the line because of some dishonesty ( which would be in writing of course) from 5 years ago. Some employers do not check references and research your resume. Many do. If you are applying for a government position make sure that every thing you have on your resume is truthful and accurate "down to the t" as they say.

I have been desperate for a job before but I know that out right lying on the resume can bring on long term consequences.

Almost everyone has a white lie on their resume. It's okay. But avoid lying about anything big that can cause damage to your career.
