I believe so. I've been learning sign language and I've been teaching my daughter. Learning it enables us to communicate with those who use it, as well as communicate between ourselves. she's a toddler so she doesn't understand some things but using sign language enables her to tell us what she wants even if she doesn't know the word or how to explain. It will also help me as sometimes, usually when I'm over stressed or nervous, I dont talk so being able to talk in another way is super useful. Being able to use sign language allows us to be able to include those who can't speak or hear, being excluded is no fun for any age.
I hope all that made sense, I'm not sure if I answered your question properly but I think it should be taught. ❤
Maybe. I think they should offer more choices of it in school. I’ve never heard of a high school or middle school offering it. But I don’t know if it should be apart of the standard curriculum. I think there’s more Spanish speakers in America than deaf people. Still a lot of deaf people though. Plus if someone goes deaf, and they already learned ASL in school then that’d be easier for them. Maybe we should teach both Spanish and ASL to people from a young age? I don’t know.
It shouldn't be a mandatory course but I do wish it was a course you could take though if you wanted to. I'll have to learn it since my fiancé has a very high chance of turning deaf after he has his surgery. I'm also a nurse and have met people who are deaf so that could have helped me to communicate with them better as well.
I don't any deaf people or people that can't speak. If the times comes I will learn it. But I did not needed it in school and I'm now five years out of school and did not really remember much about languages I learned, mathematics I learned and other topics you did not really use in a normal daily life or at work.
Yes, at least the basics or as an optional course. That would be amazing.
I have never had a ise for it as most deaf people can write. Still, I have only ever lnown two deaf individuals in contrast to meeting a shit ton of people who speak various different languages with Spanish likely being most common. Still, hate for that to be compulsory as I haven't an ear for Spanish.
I think it should be, I am in positions where I wish they would of taught me cause I would feel so much better talking to a mute/deaf person when the time arises. Plus we never know if we are going to birth a disabled child who may need it and would help everyone out

Yup! Because it's practical exam would be super easy if the student knows the teacher as there's nothing to do.
I love sign language, I used to sign as a child because I hated speaking. I'm re learning it because I've forgotten some
No, stop adding things to school that isn’t necessary. Kids these days don’t even want to read an article but you think they’re going to learn to sign? Yeah right.
lol. It’s not unnecessary. You’re the one that just assumed deaf people don’t exist? Also? Something unnecessary is like Advanced Calculus.
I literally didn’t assume hat lol, don’t make things up jus because I’m right and you’re in your tiny feelings about it.
It’s unnecessary. How many times is someone ever going to need to sign something to someone? I’ve actually used calculus outside of school.
Sign language is only necessary for people who are related to deaf people or who come in contact with them on a regular basis which is NOT most people. Tis facts. Get over it.
You’re not right about anything. Lol and no. Sign language can be necessary for anyone who lives where there’s a deaf community. I used to live in a small border town in Texas, where there was a pretty big deaf community. And when I tried applying to jobs, ALMOST ALL OF THEM required you to know sign language. I moved later on to another part of Texas. I tried applying at call centers, ALL of them required me to know Spanish. It depends on location. Not if you’re related to the person.
Also. No normal person uses calculus outside of school. Basic math, sure. But not calculus.
Just because you don’t use it doesn’t mean others don’t. But last I checked, advanced calculus isn’t part of the standard curriculum so your point is still moot. In fact, most states give you a variety of math courses to choose from just like you get a variety of foreign language to choose from. If you are always around someone who uses ASL, odds are you are going to pick it up from them just like if your parents speak both English and Spanish then you pick up both languages from them.
Kids don’t even learn their foreign language at school. How much Spanish or French or German can you speak from those classes you took in school?
Mmm, that’s what I thought. You clearly know nothing about the education system but if you’d like to continue to be wrong then who am I to stop you?
Actually it is part of average curriculum. I don't know if you went to a special high school for dumb people but I had to take it junior year.
And actually, I learned Spanish in high school and still speak in now that I’m 25 sooo.
But if you’d like to continue being wrong, be my guest
Yes! I’d love to learn signlanguage. Schools should give us more options, school are so outdated sometimes😭
I think it definitely should be a choice to do in school,
My mother is deaf & for some reason everyone thinks I can sign. Mom can read lips across a noisy room
No, it's unnecessary.
Yes, people who are deaf exist.
Though it's such a small part of the population that it would be a waste of time to teach. Most people would never get to use it.
We had a kid in are school with no hearing so we did learn a bit
It should be cause it is unique and it is a form of communication which people should learn like Spanish and other languages
Yes, I think it's important to be able to talk with all humans.
I’m glad I took sign language instead of Latin or Spanish
An elective perhaps. Training should be delivered by video to save money.
No, there are better and more useful things to learn.
Nah because when I get older my child might cus me out in sign language 😂
If we force one language we would then need to start making sure we cover all other groups who feel left out. It's unmanagable.
That would be so cool!
Yes i see no reason for it to not be
Yes at least as an optional course.
Run into all kinds of people
Why exactly? No, I don’t think so.
