about the smartest in school but not the nerd, captain of a couple sports teams but not a jock, the odd one out but always got along with everyone... known and noticed by everyone but not the popular nor one in the cliques/crowds

Voted "Prep," but the odd part is that I was also a bit of a "nerd." So either answer would work.
For my part, I loved high school and enjoyed every minute of it. I was popular and became editor of the editorial section of the school newspaper. For me, that was heaven and my only regret in retrospect is that I was so involved in newspaper that I neglected other things I might have engaged in like student government and forensics. Stuff that is now - oddly enough - very much part of my adult life.
That said, I dressed pretty well and kept my hair short for the times. (I went to high school from 1977 to 1981.) However, I was also known as something of brainiac. I got along famously with all my teachers - which did not seem to count against me with my fellow students - and had friends among all the other social groups, even the jocks. Oh, and believe me, the one thing I was not was a "Jock."
Beyond that, if I was socially awkward, I never noticed. I attended Spirit Week events. I was not too much of a sports fan - in contrast to my younger brother who played, I think, just about every sport they offered - but would go to games. I attended the all night senior party on graduation night as well as the prom and had a steady girlfriend for my Junior and Senior years.
Yet, to repeat, I was the guy who would discuss politics. (I first became interested in the mid-1970s.) I was the guy who quote someone no one had ever heard of. For music, I did listen to a lot of the stuff my classmates listened to, but I grew up in a home with classical and Jazz - and I became a fan of the latter, and still am. So I was a little off the beaten path in that way.
Funny part is, I am still in touch with friends and teachers from my high school years, so I must have done something right if they still want my company.

1. Popular. However, I didn't like being considered the "school socialite" because people assumed I'm high-maintenance or stuck up which I wasn't.
2. Teachers' pet. I kissed up to the faculty to secure my rank as the "academic genius" of the class. All the women Teachers liked me. The male Professors didn't because I reminded them that getting a good education from a Teacher was what I expected to earn, not flirting with an Educator. However, the schools' admins considered me they're "nightmare" because I was a political activist numerous times.
3. I may not look like a nerd but I can be very nerdy. I've got high grades, accolades, awards & medals to prove that.
4. I was a fashionista on my own. I hardly bought expensive clothes that was in fashion, I just sewed up my own. Many copied my style than what was on the magazines.
5. Fiercely athletic. I was ready & willing to get bruised for that precious win for the school, the neighborhood, pride & my collection of trophies & medals.
6. Every guy's crush. I was one of the prettiest, sexiest, fittest girls in the campus during my time in school. Despite presuming I was a stuckup, I was actually very approachable & friendly. Almost every guy from jocks to nerds crushed on me.
7. I always threw or, at least, organized the biggest & best parties throughout the years I was I high school.
8. Trouble. Either I mastermind something dastardly or I played a key role in something that caused shockwaves throughout the school& beyond.
9. Tomboy-ish. I had more guy friends than girl friends but I never fooled around with 'em. I rode my bike, skateboards with my best buddies in & around campus and before during our hangouts before going home after school.
10. Fair & Reliable. I stood up against bullies for myself and the oppressed.
I guess nerd comes close, but weirdo is more accurate. I was known for wearing skirts and beards. I regularly did things like hand-sewing a costume to boost my concentration. The entire desk would be covered with cloth, needles, scissors, chalk and thread. But teachers soon learned to accept that because suddenly I was able to pay attention and actively participate because my mind wouldn't attempt to drift away to sleep.
Sometimes I wore chainmail underneath the sweater. And sometimes I argued with teachers and pointed out that they are wrong about the subject matter, only to fail the test later, because there were questions in it I wasn't interested in.
My classmates once told me how they got to know a bunch of new people when they realized those other people are talking about me and my classmates were able to brag that they actually know me.
A girl once told me "You know, walking next to you like this, I feel like a celebrity, since everyone is looking at us wherever we go." She was only half sarcastic.
Other: The anti-bully, defender of the weak in elementary and middle school, as well as one of the top athletes in Track and Field. In the 9th grade, I started to get worried why I hadn't grown since ten years old (I had Precocious Puberty), and had a falling out with two of my friends, but was still popular and athletic. Then by 11th grade, I started getting really worried if I'd grow or not, and started taking HGH and seeing a doctor regularly. I became depressed and after the SAT's, my grades took a nosedive. By 12th grade, I was super depressed, near suicidal and a loner, as all three of my former best friends since the 4th grade (one of them being female) outgrew me.
So I started at the top of the social ladder, was still at the top by 9th grade, and ended high school at the bottom and severely depressed. So maybe a Jock/Loser.
I was the quiet nerd/loner.
I didn't really fit in with anyone. I had "friends," and I use the term loosely because honestly I didn't fit in with them either- they were just the only people that spoke to me. Yet I had nothing in common with the majority of them. It's like the memes you see online where an extrovert adopts an introvert? That was me; I was adopted introvert.
I basically went to school, passed all my classes, and graduated. I honestly can't say I enjoyed or miss anything about high school, other than I miss getting out of school for holidays and summer vacation, haha.

The way I dressed and my natural poker face gave people the impression that I was bitchy/high maintenance/mean, but my personality is not like that… I’m pretty friendly, I can be not so girly and I have a crackhead humor and a lot of the people I had fun with were the “misfits”, so yeahhh😆😂
Although I didn't exactly fit into anything, in my opinion, there were many that I could fit into. My sister and I both stood out, aside from being identical twins. The way we carried ourselves, the way we dressed and talked were quite different. We also had friends from like different social groups, from different backgrounds with different hobbies and interests. We both had like that one Honors class, by the way. We knew quite a lot of people. Although we didn't know a whole lot of people, a lot of people knew us.
Misfit with no real group. Hung around the jocks and the popular kids a lot but I wasn’t one of them. I just seemed to always be dating a couple of them. Not smart enough to be a nerd. Not cool enough to be cool. Didn’t like weed enough to be a stoner. Kind of sporty but not in any sports so not a jock. I was just one of the guys in a lot ways except I was pretty and they definitely saw me as a girl. Tomboy in a mini skirt.
The popular girls all hated me and bullied me. The boys all seemed to like me and would ask me out a lot. I was known for being a little wild, fun, low maintenance and not stuck up I was always invited to every party and people seemed to know who I was even if I didn’t know them.

Which clique did/do you belong to in your high school?
I hung out with the metalheads and the punk rockers. Leather jackets, spiked hair, chains, band shirts, et cetera. But I also played varsity sports so I didn't fit in anywhere completely well. The punks made fun of me for playing sports and the jocks made fun of me for being a punk. But it was fine, I had plenty of friends that had my back when needed.
Weird mix. I was a jock in the sense basketball/soccer and serious horse riding was going on. But also a surfer, nerd (loved all the off the wall things) and cared about my grades. Also all my friends were male and around home, so I floated under the radar in school. Least remembered. The girl who was off either doing sports or nose in a book.
A mix between the metalhead stoner skater anime nerd. In had a wide range if people that in was friends with. You forgot to mention the thug/cholos where I'm from that was a pretty big thing. And I hung out with a lot of them too! In didn't dress like them but in was always in good terms with them and a good friend of mine that is like a brother to me is a gangster and many other friends of mine are too. I wasn't a jock but I was in sports too. Like I said I hung out with some many different kind of people in high school!
Goth, and we didn't exist in the same era (with emos) when I grew up. Goths were mean and prone to violence. Emos were soft little punching bags. In fact I don't remember there being an 'emo' category until after I had quit school after being expelled twice. Putting them in the same category is 'Columbine' worthy.
I was all the above except for also popular but with every scenario just very quiet because I knew everybody I knew this jocks all the coaches wanted me to play either baseball or football but I erased your bike so I did not want to do that the Stoners I knew all of them the back parking lot smokers I do all of them the Nerds I knew all of them because I used to protect him what else did you have down there yeah I was all of the above except for I was very quiet
I’ll find out next year when I go into high school, I’m not actually in high school yet 😂 But I’ll just try to be as nice as I can to everyone and see what happens ☺️
Always have been and forever shall be goth. And eww emo's, Lucky there was no such thing in my schools. No one was emo. Just goth or not. And not many were goths tbh. But hey the most famous girl in one of my high schools was a goth, so not your typical blonde girl in pink.
A mix of different things at different times to different people haha. So at school preppy nerd, gym - athletic, at home playing games chilling somewhat goth barbie haha.. Out with parents - well groomed girly & classy.
I picked misfit because I really never fit in. I'd beat up the jocks, was not smart enough to hang with the nerds (although I protected them a lot from the jocks), left the stoners alone unless they wanted to share some food and the emo crown annoyed me (although I also protected them from the jocks). I kept to myself a lot in school, but could get along with anyone I chose to get alone with and made whatever enemies I chose.
I don't really think I had any sort of stereotype and I mean it wasn't a stereotypical school either it was a country charter school with like a 100 students total from all grades.
I don't think any of us really fell into either kind of stereotype to be honest.
Nerdy artist gamer who looked like a mental band guitarist's child, had the personality of a hyperactive hippy scientist, and the dress code of either an emo, or just dr malcom from the lost world, you pick.
