What do you think about denying white people promotions due to needing more diversity in management positions (this happened at my work)?

What recently happened was there was a vacancy in a higher up position. Everyone was mentioning how a girl deserved it and everyone assumed it was going to be her who got called up. It was expected because she’s the best worker we have and one of the smartest. She was denied and they hired a person of color in there who seemed very random. Nobody said anything at all about it nor did the white girl but I think we were kinda all thinking the same thing.

I've read about affirmative action and how the policy promotes minorities. But I don't know if it's still a government policy or they have disbanded it.

This is due to affirmative action. There’s a story I came across where a man was fired and replaced by two women. A black woman and a white woman. He filed a discrimination lawsuit and won $10 mil. But still never got his job back. Affirmative action is both racist and sexist. Jobs should be given to those who are qualified for the position. Not handed to someone based on their race, sex, etc.

On September 12, 1990, authorities discovered the bullet-riddled body of Charles "Dick" Humphreys, 56, in Marion County, Florida. A retired Air Force major and former Alabama police chief, Humphreys was working as a child abuse investigator at the time of his death. Retired merchant marine Peter Siems' body was never found. He disappeared after leaving his home near Jupiter, Florida, for New Jersey. Siems' 1988 Sunbird was found in June 1990. Witnesses placed Aileen Wuornos and Tyria Moore near the vehicle before its discovery.

Wuornos' last known victim was 62-year-old Walter Antonio. Shot four times in the back and the back of the head, the location of Antonio's wounds helped upend Wuornos' claims of self-defense.

You base your opinion off social media. Literally, the most unreliable source, of media.
Assuming all white people are privileged, is so insanely ignorant.
Do you want to know who is privileged... Americans.. And if anyone argues this fact, they are obviously in denial or have no idea what happens in 3rd world countries. People born in North Korea, People born in Afghanistan, Iraq, etc. Those people are repressed.
If someone in those countries acted even remotely close to how we act here. They would be sentenced to death... Your hands would be cut off, You would be whipped in public. The true heroes, are not the ones posting on social media. They are the ones that gave their lives, So that you could have the freedom to bash on what they sacrificed. Believing all white people are privileged, you have obviously never actually done done any research into our history.
Believing white people all get promoted to management, is ridiculous. Most are blue collar workers, working alongside Hispanics, islanders, blacks and Asians. Working back breaking jobs.
You can argue this all you want, But I guarantee the people not responding are the ones that are really repressed...

Yes they do that because they are idiots. That’s the problem. There is no such thing as white privilege in this country there hasn’t been in a long while. The thing is blacks do have privilege. At this moment in time blacks are the most racist people in this country , and as to their black privilege its shown in their ability to attack any other race but mainly white without repercussions or consequences. They have their own college funds , you must hire them even if you don’t want too. They have funds and charities for only black people. They have their own pet civil rights group called the NAACP. BLM is the biggest ripoff against black people that has ever been perpetrated, and it was done by other black people. The US needs to stop catering to these people and make them earn their place in this society instead of giving them everything. Blacks are 13.4 % of the population so why are we allowing them to dictate how the rest of us behave. 67.8 % white 18 % Hispanic/Latino then there is a small percentage of other that constitutes oriental and eastern people. Some pseudo scientists have put out this narrative that whites are going to be a minority. That may be it’s far in the future you won’t see it nor your grandchildren. You always hear about black poverty. Well there is white poverty too and Hispanic poverty etc. Blacks even try to gatekeep who is poor. Its ridiculous it needs to stop. The reason they are making so much noise now is they think they are going to get another bunch of freebies and maybe some more organizations to ensure they keep the freebies coming and keep that privilege they have over the rest of us. Also before you all start sending your hate. My skin is very thick and if you come at me ignorant you will be treated as ignorant. You can’t upset me , and you can do nothing about my opinion. I had the same thing happen in a company I worked for they advanced a person because they needed some color upstairs so in their stupidity they advanced an unqualified person of color and what happened was not unexpected. Production fell by half, moral went into the basement and respect for managment stopped. The new boss was such an asshole no one would give the person help when they were asked a question that would help the new boss. The answer across the board was your the boss now you should know that because we do not know the answer. There were people of color who worked there for many years and overqualifed for the job but because they were women the job was given to a man not the best person for the job. Shortly after about 30 percent of us left and found better employment the old company folded a couple of year later. We did not care if the job was give to a man or woman Red, Yellow , Brown or Black , Give it to the most qualified of any color and gender. Not to fill a quota

Here’s the problem — it should ALWAYS be based on merit. It if that happens, you’re not going to see a lot of diversity — Asians and whites are very qualified for most job positions they seeks to acquire. Their IQs average about 107 and 105 respectively; blacks at 85 and Hispanics at 89. Obviously, there are smart and dumb folks of every hue but that isn’t the point. On the law of averages, the average black is at the 16th percentile for whites. What will this lead to? Disaster. Society will tell people their disparate outcomes are caused by “racism” because telling them it is their intelligence is not politically correct. And so when certain groups have higher criminality rates and are treated as suspect by police who see it everyday, those groups will resort to violent riots as we saw in 2020. So we continue to give them unearned job positions, unearned TV time, unearned settlement moneys to hold this thing together. And it will only get worse. Can you imagine an air traffic controller or surgeons job being given to someone unqualified? Look at Obama — No dummy but certainly not a Bill Clinton or Even. Donald Trump. But Obama could read his lines and follow his handlers’ advice. But many jobs won’t have a handler and will put the rest of us at real risk just so we can workshop at the alter of political correctness.

It's wrong but remember in the world of work it's common to see that regardless of race. Promotions will often go to people who are less qualified, capable, and experienced than other candidates. It could be favouritism, a relative, a friend or they just give great head.

The best society runs on meritocracy. Else you are only as fast as the slowest wheel. Doesn't matter skin, gender, religion. The best should ALWAYS be chosen for the position. Has something like this happen at my old job. But it was gender discrimination instead... against men. I was basically a work horse while they texted bfs, threw things laughing, and I never got promoted but they did despite me being a customer favorite and being there way longer. Somehow the same girls I trained from say one would eventually become my boss? Wtf is that? And I still had more knowledge on how to get things done and they came to me for help... like what? Well anyways settled out of court for other reasons they screwed up. If I was older and wiser I would have rejected the 12k for a day stack.

It is up to the business to decide who is the most qualified, of course they'll be the one that has to deal with the fall out if the person they put into that position is terrible. Customer compensation, lost revenue and business.

They could also lose a lot of good talent in protest over this, I would wager given the current economic state that they already have a great deal of open positions they cannot even fill.

Seems like a great way to do bad business. Remember all business is there to make money, they aren't there to get political, or get involved with society issues all they really want to do is make money.

Promotions should be based on merits, period. A company that goes out of its way to meet something stupid like a "diversity quota" cares more about appeasing an imaginary base that doesn't keep them in business than giving competitive service or a quality product, at which point they don't deserve to be a successful business. I've never known a single person to go out of their way to buy goods or services from a business just because they "have the most minorities in executive roles," but I know a LOT of people who will go out of their way to avoid companies who put their image ahead of customers.

My best manager right now is someone who I guarantee I don't see eye to eye with on basically anything except for her performance as a manager, but she'd be the first person I'd recommend for a higher position or even just a simple raise. That's how it should be.

If that was my work environment, I’d take my talent somewhere else or work for myself. You have to be able to spot a sinking ship and make early moves for the life boats. At the end of the day you are looking out for yourself and your family. If a company is run poorly it will be unprofitable. If it is unprofitable, eventually they will start sacking people, and you’ll be first on the chopping block due to their ideological beliefs. So, just interview with other companies and make a move. Leave them to fail with their ranks populated with losers that got their job because of their skin color rather than their talent and work ethic. Companies come and go every day.

I think it's bullshit. A job should go to the person BEST qualified regardless of race or gender. It seems like a lot of places of business are trying to reach some kind of "diversity" quota and they're not hiring the best people for the job, just people who are marginalized so that the company can look better in the public's eye. I thought the core ideal of feminism was supposed to be equality and equal opportunity. It's original ideals have become so twisted.

it'll be interesting to see how this ends. I've witnessed this occurring over a 28 yr career. It was happening in the 1990's when I graduated and still is. We just didn't virtue signal so much back then. It doesn't seem to be working. I can explain why it hasn't resulted in many female executives. The women who are promoted in this way are most likely educated and will therefore move or exist mostly in a circle of educated men. I can name countless female engineers on a promotional path who inevitably marry a successful male engineer and somewhere down the road they decide they have enough money and value piece of mind and family time and the woman quits working to devote herself to maximizing the childrens upbringing. repeat, repeat repeat

Do you for definite know that it was skin colour that determined who got the promotion? If you have proof etc, then the girl should appeal it and look up discrimination laws.
Otherwise, maybe take a step back to see how the person goes rather than assuming race is the issue.

That happened to me. I was twice as experienced and where I worked hired a Black woman for "diversity." I ended up having to teach her how to do parts of the job because she wasn't qualified.
It is pretty common. Women and Black people get promotions and jobs to fill diversity quotas regardless of qualifications.

It's completely unfair, the job should go to the best candidate. And diversity causes lesser candidates, since they can't just pick from the winning formula but needs to settle with lower quality because they focus on a parameter that is for most parts irrelevant.

They're all just trying to make more money. These corporations are full of white corporate executives and they just care about whatever is going to make them more popular to the culture. In Oregon they're changing the math requirements to graduate high school to accommodate for the "colored students" which is offensive to myself a black person and to white people. Things are slowly flipping and soon whites will be in the position that blacks were in in the '60s and it's not going to be good. We're just continuing this perpetual chain of hatred and slavery we need to break this chain.

It’s a woman of color, I think it’s a form of discrimination in itself. You’re denying a person a position in management because of their skin color. Unless this is a company/city wide standard based on the demographics in the city, I think it is unfair and should not be tolerated. In theory, it was a great idea coming out of jim crow and segregation. However, 60 years on, it has turned meritocracy upside down and helps promote corruption, and fosters bitterness. Not just in right wing MFs either. It reeks of marketing and not competence or productivity. Notice how Goldman Sachs gave their multi billion dollar grants to black women only.
