About 7 years before I retired from the job I had since the mid-80s I was faced with replacing one of my managers who had himself retired. I basically had to choose from 3 candidates. All 3 had roughly the same educational background. I had 100% confidence all 3 could do the job. I struggled with this decision for close to a month. I spoke to one of the holding company VPs and they said to look deeper. Two of them were males and another was a female. I was inclined to select that female. That is until I had a chance to speak to a lady I trusted. She told me if I chose that lady 3 of my best engineers were going to walk out, they simply could not work with her as it was in a peer relationship much less as their boss. So I selected one of the men and this lady actually resigned and went to work for a company about 300 miles away. This man replaced me actually when I retired and moved to Virginia and started my consulting business. It sucks, but sometimes a manager has to make a decision that is in fact discriminatory simply to keep peace in the workplace. However, removing a person from consideration based on gender or race is just stupid! There is a large department store chain that hires management based on diversity. About half of their stores are being run into the ground because of it. Of course, diversity is important, but being able to actually do the damn job should be MORE SO!

ChefPapiChulo probably can't see this since he blocked me (for similar reasons as you see in this comment section). But this is the problem with "racism" in America. The term has been diluted. You explicitly state you're being discriminated against, and you move to a place where that discrimination isn't present (or practical). That's not racist.
Obviously, since he thinks racism is bad, and moving means your racist (according to him), then his opinion is that white people who are being oppressed and discriminated against should keep their mouth shut, stay put, and accept the abuse. And this perspective is growing more and more common with each passing day.

Yes that is disgusting. It's discriminating against "white" teens as well, for in a few years they will go looking for jobs. That is demotivating... why work hard, if going to be denied by race.
I don't recall seeing anything like that, nor do I recall discriminating against people in hiring. I had a relatively diverse group I managed at one time.

Well, the article actually states that of 1000 managers that were surveyed that only 16.6% were asked to deprioritizing hiring white men to meet diversity requirements.
The article also states that the vast majority of hiring managers ‘somewhat’ (30%) or ‘strongly’ (67%) believe their company has overall good intentions when it comes to DEI initiatives.
It is also important to note that this article was based on a survey was commissioned by ResumeBuilder. com and conducted online by the survey platform Pollfish on November 2, 2022. In total, 1,000 participants in the U. S. were surveyed. Which is not a large enough sample size to provide accurate statistics.
How I've been fighting against this is in the three organizations I belong to, when it comes voting time for a new board, every year I filter out anyone who isn't a straight white male and then make my decision based on the available candidates. Gays, women, blacks, god's chosen people, et al all vote and choose their own kind. So since this is the strategy they are using while calling people like me racist and sexist, well fuck them. I'm using the same strategy against them that they've been using against people of my demographic. And interestingly enough, this strategy against them is working.
Its funny how white men claim discrimination when they themselves are racist as fuck. what have you done to people of color all throughout history? kill them, take their land, take them as slaves to build your railroads, treat them like shit. even right now vast majority of your corporations are 90% white.
That is probably false. However, even if true, it doesn't much matter. In the final analysis, if companies are going to survive, they must hire competent people and in most jobs that require more than minimum skills, Asians and white men are the most competent. Although there are exceptions, the average white and Asian are considerable more talented and more dependable than the average black. And, other than working inside, most women can't do the jobs that men do.
To preface, I'm in agreement that there is discrimination towards white people, and a lot of it. So when I say the following I don't mean for it to be interpreted as opposition, but where are you getting 52% from? I don't find that number in the article.
In the end white men will accept it. We were willing to die by the hundreds of thousands in the Civil War and the British blockade of the slave trade, letting them discriminate against us job wise is small compared to that. It is all a fundemental part of our culture.
Assuming it's true then it for sure needs to be addressed.

I was told to hire based on diversity needs of the company. Now I'm miserable because I'm the only white guy on my team and therefore the only competent person.

Fair enough. I applied for a teaching position in the urban school district where I live, and despite being short 400 teachers, I was not even given an interview. I later found out because the teachers union president went on major news channels to complain about how the district was not hiring certified credentialed teachers, that hundreds of less qualified people than me got the job. Isn’t that white male privilege grand?
Build a first world nation and POC will come. They will take over and discriminate against you. Everywhere you run to and hide they will find you and water down you culture with diversity.
