When did you start walking to school by yourself?

I just had this conversation with my mom, cause it's about time that my little sister who is soon 9 years. old (3rd Grade) needs to learn this. Also like her school is just literally 5 mins away.

Personally I had to walk to school by myself since 1st Grade, cause my mom worked 4-5 jobs back then and I was alone nearly all the time
So I had to wake up, prepare my lunch and walk my ass up to school on my own.
On the way back I would walk with a friend for the half of my way but that's pretty much it.

Kindergarten at Cleveland Elementary School. It was about a half a mile away. I had to cross one small street at the end of the block. Then walk another block to an intersection where there was a crossing guard to cross to the other side of my street and then the large cross street. From there, I took a diagonal path across a large vacant lot to the fire station on street the school was on. There was another crossing guard to cross that residential street to the school.

From first to eighth grade I went to a Catholic school two miles away. I took the bus there until I got a new 10 speed bike.

When I was growing up, we lived about a mile from my elementary school and I walked it from Kindergarten through 8th grade. My older sister walked with me for Kindergarten. After that, she went to high school and I walked by myself from grade 1 (age 6) through grade 8 (age 13).

it depends because sometimes moms protect us a lot and may not let us but i think that you should ask your mom when she walked to school by herself , and for your mom to let her start being independent like making your bed /meals or helping mom with washing dishes and your mom will let u , it worked with me
