Female or Male Personal Trainer? What helped make your choice?

If it’s just trainer then probably make assuming it’s generic trainer as I feel the ‘average’ female trainer might be biased to recommend certain excersises for females only not to ‘be too manly’ and I can trust guys more
If it’s to do with coaching and nutrition then I’d rather female as they’ll understand women’s hormones, natural cycles etc and that higher fats for instance work better generally rather then tailoring for what they may be used to in a male client perhaps
So depends really. At the same time if I have to send in progress pics in underwear etc. I’d be more comfortable with female so both have pros and cons
I added in my update, but I envisioned trainers who are top of their game and do not feed BS to people for numbers. Given that, seems to me like a Female trainer would be your preference.
Probably, less chance of them making me uncomfortable too
I prefer male “athletic trainers”.
It’s the opposite for doctors though. I like the strength of a female doctor, to tell it as it is, with a better bedside manner.
What makes you pick the male over the female?
Taekwondo experience. Most male “masters” are huge softies. They encourage you rather than aggressively push you. I mean woman can be like that too. But even with the woman in my class, as much as we get along my instructor thinks we are rough. lol First time he brought it up we all turned and said “What? No way!” At the same time. All those dans on his belt shook a moment then he just grinned at us.
@dustybiker lol I've noticed that as well. It seems trainers of the same gender are more aggressive. In my experience the females have been more patient and encouraging to me.
Yes. Think it’s the opposing genders that make it work (in most cases, not all)
I might lean towards a male just to be able to relate more in terms of both having male bodies. The type I'd pick wouldn't be some douchey motivational type though.
If I wanted a PT, I'd want one who can significantly broaden the range of motions I train in, has a superior understanding of safety, anatomy, and can push me fairly hard.
An example would be someone like Jeff Cavaliere of Athlean-X:

https://www.youtube.com/embed/tccdbY5xcf4For me, a female trainer. I've had both and the male trainers tend to be more douchey, in my experience. The female ones are more focused, in my experience, and aren't telling me to lose weight just so I can "smash vag."
Yea I've noticed that. I've had the honor of training with 4 female trainers and about 10 males. I'm considering becoming a personal trainer if law enforcement does not work out. ALL the ladies were focused. Out of the guys, 3 of them were not douchy.
