Why do restaurants alwayys end up being shi**y places to work?

We keep losing waitresses except 3 of them who do really well. Our kitchen manager quit in a fit of rage today, one of the waitresses broke a Point of Sale system in a rage as well. Cooks always acting so pissy and heated, someone is always in trouble with the law or in jail over BS. I have serious dreams of being a serious cook, but in a better place than where I'm at now. The place I work at now is a casual dining place, but I feel like I could do better if given more creative opportunities.

Just about anybody can get a Restaurant Job so there's going to be Trashy People that come through. Not to mention, certain people with Criminal Records can only get Restaurant Jobs because no really good job will hire them. They basically ruined their prospects. Also, I think Customer Service has actually gotten worse over the years. I don't know if that has anything to do with people acting up at your job. Anyway, you could go to Cooking School to become a Chef or get enough experience at restaurants to open your own restaurant.

I've heard that over the years. I think part of the problem is the lack of talented managers. It is tough to manage people sometimes, and to get them on track.

You don't see restaurants advertising for help with minimum educational requirements... there's your sign. So they may attract a handful of good people. But the rest are dregs of society mixed in.
