everywhere I’ve worked I was always given a break if I worked at least 6 hours. Isn’t that a law? Of course it differs in every state (US) but I’ve worked in RI and MA and the rule was always that crew got a break for a shift that’s at least 5-6 hours.
but working as a server/bartender at a restaurant, we don’t always get a break. They usually ask if we want one but if it’s really busy then they don’t even ask.
Today I worked almost 12 hours without even getting asked if I wanted a break. I didn’t ask for one but I don’t think I would have gotten one anyways. I was the only bartender on from 10am - 6pm and 6 is the dinner rush so there was no time for me to take one. Especially since the other bartender isn’t strong at all and we got absolutely slammed with drinks tonight.
But I did make $300 tonight plus whatever I made in tip share (probably another $30-$50) so I guess I can’t complain lol
And from what I’ve heard, it isn’t just my restaurant and this is common for the restaurant industry as a whole.
Why is that allowed? 🥲
my restaurant be breaking violations left and right tbh. The other day, one of the servers was throwing up and they literally refused to send her home. I used to be a fast food manager and I had to take a food safety course so I’m aware of the rules. That’s literally a food safety violation. If an employee is throwing up you HAVE to send them home. Doesn’t matter if you’re understaffed or not.
she just found out that she’s pregnant and they said they “need a doctors note” lmao please
Then people wonder why we’re so adamant about wanting to get tipped decently. Cause after a 40 hour work week, my paycheck is $10 bro lmao
