If that's what you want. Personally I wouldn't keep doing my current job but would still work in some capacity.
I'd invest in property to create a passive income, would love to open a micro pub. If I had enough money I'd open a bowling alley aimed at serious players, there's literally no where in South east of England that seems to be a proper place to bowl, it's mainly Hollywood bowl who really cater for the public and kids.

You could, for a while anyway. For the average single person living in the US (granted the specific location has a major impact), $1,000,000 will sustain someone paying only for their needs for about 20 years if taking into account a prediction of inflation during that timeframe.
For reference, it currently costs (on average) about $39,000 per year for a single adult to live in the US. You can guesstimate accordingly based on the COL of a more specific area.
Unless you enjoy your work, if you can afford it, you may and well retire and enjoy your remaining years, or els, find work you do enjoy, even if it pays less.
As long as you still have some source of income I guess that's fine. If not then keep making money because it's easy to spend a million dollars.

It's always ok not to want to work.
As long as you're living your life the way you want, and not harming anyone in the process, do what you want.
Personally, even if I had a million, I'd keep my current job. At least for the next 5 years. I like what I do and I enjoy the work - I'm literally working on a dream project right now, lol.
But even after that, I'd still be "working". Either making a market urban farm, a DnD online business, a pallet furniture biz, or something. I just enjoy making things.Depending on how old you are and if you own a house or not a million dollars isn't much to live off of for 40 years . That's only around 25k a year.
It must be a pitiful existence if one ONLY works because it makes money coming in.
I share your opinion to not see the point in making a million - or millions :)I think you’ll become unhappy not working at some point. As stressful as it can be, it’s actually kind of healthy. Like when horses got depressed because cars became a thing. That’s what I remember at least
You are right, a million dollars will not buy what it used to.
It’s all going to be spent sooner or later.
Plus a million doesn’t feel as large as it used to. (Which is part of how economy works.)If you want to do something constructive volunteer for something but don't be lazy and do nothing and get fat and die early enjoy yourself travel
I mean, 1 million will be gone pretty quickly unless you turn it into more money, after you do that, then sure, you can retire easily.
What do you want to do instead
No, keep working and buy some rental properties.
Yeah but it won't last long...10 million maybe
$1m is not enough to stop working!
A billion yeah but a million? To low
