Lowball job offer even after I expressed my expectations?

I had a interview that went well. When I told them my salary requirement during the interview they said it was ok. However, a few days later they asked me if I’ll will take the job offer for less than my salary range requirement.

After expressing my salary range requirement again they said, “ok, they are working on it” and to give them a couple of days.

Why did this happen? Or what’s going on?

It's normal.

HR will always try to offer the lowest figure they think you'll go for, and pretend they need time to get approval for almost every counter-negotiation.

Call after a few days (if they haven't called back) to remind them.

If they're not lying to you, then probably the person preparing your offer needs time to get approval for the increased pay and will get back to you.

There's a chance the HR person is just trying to ghost, but that's highly unprofessional - if this does happen, honestly you dodged a bullet.
