Well I have a love-hate relationship with maths. I don't like maths at all when I don't understand it. It's also the subject in which I have hard time understanding the things and it's really tough for me to maintain my marks in maths. I'm really bad in it without anyone guiding me. Especially the maths in 9th grade. It's really tough. The maths teacher just increases my fear by saying things like "If you can't do maths properly now, then you can't do it properly ever".
However I love maths a lot too because when my dad teaches it, he teaches so great that I understand it clearly and also he have a lot of patience so when I can't understand a concept for long then he doesn't gives up hopes on me. Also maths is a way when he spends time with me. It becomes interesting once I understand the method and all. Just like solving a puzzle and I love solving cases and puzzles. I challenge you to solve this! I will share the answer after a day if I don't get any correct answers. This one is very easy.
I think that for most people, the problem is long division. You have four apples and I give you three more. Then I take one away. Then I double the apples you have. Then I ask you to split them unto groups of three. Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division; all clear so far. Then you're asked to divide 1478 by 241, and told you need to take ' specific portion of the number and divide it into another portion. "Okay, why?" Because that's what you need to do? "But WHY? How does it work?" It just does- now do it!
If you tried something like that in say, science class, you'd be laughed out of the room, but sticking with something completey divorced from concrete reality is perfectly acceptable in math. I lucked out; I switced schools at just the right time, and they never taught me long division. That was good, as I rather liked math at the time, and seedng it break down into memorizing dogma would've soured me on it, fast.
It *did* mean, however, that algebra caught me off guard. If long division is dogma, then algebra is outright alchemy. If the only answer you have for "When will we ever use this?" is "in other, more advanced forms of math", then MAYBE you should accept that it's unnecessary. Okay, society needs for SOMEBODY to have it, I can accept that, but we make swimming and CPR and even basic car maintenance elective courses, but heaven forbid you can't calculate an asymptote.

Yeah I hate long division too. However I love Algebra! Only remembering the formulas is boring other than that it's really interesting! Just like solving puzzles by arranging it.
Yes I get your point, most of the things we study in school aren't even necessary in real life. Schooling is outdated. However subjects like science and maths increase our intelligence based on logic and problem solving. Subjects like History, Geography increase our memory power and Language subjects make our communication skills better. Studying increases IQ level in the end.
My dad did nothing but studied his whole life. Maths was his favorite, now also. He admits that most of the things they taught we only necessary to give tests in student life however all of the studying that he did made him a very intelligent person. His IQ is 153 and it made handling his business very convenient.
I expect I can do this, but: 1. What do the square brackets mean? 2. Do the 'x' symbols between the bracketed symbols mean multiplication? It's more common to simply concatenate expressions to be multiplied, e. g. "ab + cd" means a multiplied by b plus c multiplied by d.

i hate doing it, but find it intriguing because of how it's called a "universal language"— and not just between earth-earth people, but also extra-terrestrial beings. i often look at it as a form of art— one i can excel in if I put in the effort, but eh. im too unmotivated to do that 🙋♀️😍

i have an exam tomorrow and I should be studying for that instead of doing simple math questions for a stranger on the internet.

I think if I had been able to understand higher level math, I'd understand more about computers and things like excel. I know how to use a computer, and how to "social media" but, I wish i knew more advanced stuff with excel, and how to program a computer, etc..
It was the subject i always dreaded and did the worst at grade wise. i could never get about a D in Algebra II my Junior year in high school. i also celebrated when i finally passed the last math class i ever took in college. it meant i never had to take any more math classes ever again lol.
Also we here in america call is 'math' and not 'maths' not sure why though lol
I much disliked it at school. But mostly, because all math teachers I ever met are uninspiring personalities. I'm now in an engineering profession - it's absolutely exciting how we can calculate/predict/handle most everything in life with math.
