We’re currently in a heat wave and I work in a nursery. Do you agree we should close if it’s too hot for the children?

I think it depends. yea I am in this heat too! If you have AC then it does not matter if you don't then maybe there is a issue. But there are things that might help you such as fans and those fans that blow like cold mist on you.
The fans aren’t working and we don’t have AC unfortunately
Yea but I guess parents need somewhere to take their kids. There are mister fans that help a lot
The problem is nurseries don’t have the money for good stuff so we have to be frugal
Yea that is what sucks. I know that that is hard. I just know that also parents need a place to take their kids.

Yeah of course I don’t dispute working parents need childcare
It just sucks that it is so hot though
If you close, then the children will return to their nice, cool air conditioned rooms where they will be looked after by someone else?
One always has to compare alternatives. You haven’t given us the other option.
Their parents could adequately provide a scenario to cool them down. Our building is hotter than most
It sounds like your parents are equipped to make a decision about what’s best for their kids, then. In any normal temperature range, I would say the parents know best.
You say “hotter than most.” What does that mean? I hear that and I think “this room feels very warm.” If that’s the case, see above.
I assume, since you are worried that children will be harmed by sitting in the building, that you are talking about 110-120 degrees F? 45-50 degrees C? In that case, I would send the kids elsewhere — but any parents entering the building to drop them off would immediately know that this was an unsafe environment. So, I’m not sure.
I have never seen a habitable building that is up to code (here in the US) reach dangerous inside temperatures under normal circumstances. An uninsulated pole barn with a steel roof will reach those temps…. but, surely, that’s not your daycare facility?
As in its a public building but can’t regulate the indoor temperature. It’s 34 outside and nearly 40 inside

Just turn up the air-conditioning to full blast and set the thermometer to 62 degrees. That's what I do!!
We’re in the uk we don’t have air conditioning
Oh shit 😳 👀 😕 I'm sorry for you guys. Must be horrible living in those primitive places. I hear many places in India - even offices and factoring - have little to no aircondition even thou it's above 100 degrees. Is there no way you can get just a portable a/c unit?
Lol we’re not as bad as that. But the 4 odd weeks we have summer are terrible have a look on tiktok all the Americans in London finally understand hahah
No, just don't do a lot of physical activity and keep the kids hydrated.
They’re toddlers. Ever heard of febrile convulsions?
Febrile convulsions happen when a child’s body gets too hot and they end up having convulsions - a ‘fit’.
But I would hope that they would retrofit for A/C. Small children are NOT something one should compromise on!
You’d think so
Silly me. Sorry.
Doesn't the daycare facility have air-conditioning?
Nope
Just stick them in the fridge
Stupid answer
Um, y'all don't have AC?
No what’s the point for 3 weeks of summer at most?
It’s not cost efficient though
Yea, of course for the safety and well being
Only if the kids are in danger.
Well they are
Do what you think is best.
I think we should’ve closed
My school closes if it passes 105 F
What’s that in Celsius?
Get air conditioning
My boss won’t pay for that and it’s not cost efficient
You don't have ac?
Nope no point for the amount of time it’s hot
