A story from a long time ago now (2012), but I just came across it this minute. I don't live in Canada, so I knew nothing about it until I read the article.

The link doesn't seem to work. Lately I haven't been able to get links to work here for some reason. Anyway, if you type the whole thing out manually in the URL, it should (hopefully) work. Here's a quote:

I don't see what's wrong with giving out free reading materials. The kids aren't required to read them; they aren't even required to take them, for that matter.

Interesting! I didn’t know that this had happened. I had moved to Canada in 2012 for Bible school and never heard anything about this. Although I had moved to Alberta. It is too bad that they got such disturbing kickback but I also don’t think that the band should exist as it isn’t messing with anyone’s rights. It was an offer to a 5th grader. And if parents don’t approve of the decision their child made they can just as easily throw it away. But a hand out in school isn't crossing any church and state issues.

Makes no sense. Banning any book violates human-rights. Nothing wrong with having a Bible in schools. Same for the Quran, Book of Mormon, Jewish Bible and all other religious books... every school library should have them. It's wrong to emphasize one religion over another but it's okay, and preferred, to make their books available.

Please, let's not have a real "Fahrenheit 451".

I can remember being in 3r grade and having the teacher read stories from the Bible in class. It was ended right after that. There is supposed to be a divide of church and state and having Bibles in the public schools violates that.
