I'm not graduating with honors and I'm too embarrassed to go. What should I do?

Who cares if you're not graduating with honors? You're still graduating. And you're under 18 anyway, so you're graduating high school. Do you know who cares about high school more than a week after it ends? Hint: Nobody.
Sometimes, you put in the maximum effort and don't get the results you want. That's life. This then is a chance for you to motivate yourself, to get excited for new challenges, to learn to face and overcome them, and to do better the next time around.
It will also be an opportunity to grow in humility. I say that specifically because the only people who will care who you are after the graduation ceremony is over will be the people celebrating you: Your family. And they will not be interested in whether you were an honors student or not. They will be interested in the fact that you just graduated from school and are preparing for the world outside of home. That being said, best not to worry yourself excessively about what others think of what you perceive to be a failure.
Congratulations to you and good luck.
Nobody is going to remember if you were honors or not. They are more likely to remember your influence and your actions. I don't remember who my saluditorian was for highschool. Don't know who had honors in my college. When you look at the grand scheme of things it makes no difference in the work force. They only care if you can do the job.
The tension you feel in wanting to go is a sign that you should go. Face your fears. If it's something that creates an uncomfortable feeling, then it's something you should tackle. Plus you may look back and regret not going. I didn't go to mine and I wish I did. Don't choose not to go because of what others might think. Even when it's hard not to care.
Thank you for this. And I do feel tension. But every time I make up my mind to go, I get a feeling of withdrawal. I've been crying ever since and it is making me sick. I will feel uncomfortable because when I got the news, I cried in front of my peers and my teachers and I know I will do the same at the graduation. I also fear that I will regret not going and I fear that I will regret going. I've tried my hardest this term and still didn't make the mark. I also hate the fact that I care what others think. But thank you for your advice!
Look at it this way. I'm speaking from experience here. Everyone is their own main character of their own story. By that logic no one is going to remember these minor details. I used to stress and stress about what someone else might be thinking of me. So much so that I was worried they were literally thinking of things I had done or said for hours and days. The hard fact is: Nobody is spending that much time thinking about your actions unless it's directly imapctful to them. Your best way to have someone remember or care is by influencing them or committing actions/interactions with them. People months from now aren't going to think "hey who was that girl in like our 400-800 people class that didn't get honors?" Everyone is too focused on their own lives. You should be proud that you tried your hardest. At the end of the day that's all anyone can do. Be proud of your accomplishment for graduating. I have seen a lot of people who would love to just get a degree. You accomplished something great. Go celebrate with those you love and care about, and don't people's opinions (who will literally forget the next day) impact your happiness with your friends and family celebration.
Wow, thank you! This was one of the best pieces of advice I've gotten in my life. This really motivated me to get up and go. Thank you!
the most successful people in the world did not graduate with honors, or graduate at all
