Keep telling me how a college degree is unnecessary.

Yes, it's stupid. I get that some of these jobs have a degree requirement because it's an easier way to filter candidates then actually oroperly interviewing, testing, or watching them perform to ensure competence.

However, many jobs do NOT require a degree to be good at them. Take teaching for example, why does this need a degree? Teachers are teaching the exact same stuff they learned in school to others, not higher level stuff. Considering that teaching is one of the lowest salaried professions it also doesn't make financial sense to get said degree in the first place.

As someone who has done some teaching, I can tell you that it is far more nuanced and complex than you apparently understand or are willing to admit. It is not "teaching the exact same stuff they learned in school to others" as it involves preparation of materials, choosing texts, presenting materials in an understandable and attractive way, managing classroom dynamics, and many other things that you have apparently not considered.

That said, I absolutely DO agree with your statement that it makes no financial sense to become a teacher, except perhaps at the university level.

I didn't say being a teacher is easy, I said it doesn't need a 4 year degree. An exam or certification? Sure.
However school children were taught for generations by teachers who had no degree and also parents who homeschooled without a degree, so why is it needed?

It is actually 5 years - 4 years to learn subjects that are subsequently taught, and a year to learn how to teach them. This is a bit different than "an exam or certification".

Deciding that what worked in the past will work now is just obtuse - the world is a lot more complicated.

Go try being a classroom assistant for a week or more and then come back and tell me what you think.

partly because modern college replaced mentorships and apprenticeships over the last 50 or so years of many fields. there again in America is mostly stems from the 1960s when the government started backing college loans. because people kept defaulting on them so many colleges and banks were on the verge of collapsing. but by doing so colleges started to raise prices almost yearly. while many banks started raising interest rates almost yearly.

luckily today most trade skill jobs don't yet require a 4+ year degree to enter the field. but may still require a 4+ year degree to earn higher income. but vocational schools and educations can help to build up experience to start learning a trade skill. while still in high school or even afterwards.

Bring up the concept of tuition to Europeans and they will be surprised you even have to pay for it. College is a tremendous waste of money, you can go to trade school and still make a good amount of money.

Most of these employers that demand college degrees are really only demanding them because it's expected. If they continue along that trajectory then they are going to have a workforce of pretty much only women lol.

I never said they would earn the exact same amount. And frankly all that money you were listening is more than anyone will ever realistically need for many years. You can life off of sub 20k if you cut costs enough.

I say this too.. I graduated college later in life and I know that most employers will not even talk to you unless you have the piece of paper.
