I primarily have K-12/primary and secondary in mind, but you can also describe a good university. You can also cite a particular country's system if you like.
I'll focus on my high school, which I felt, and still feel, provided a mediocre education. One of the big issues I had was with the teaching staff, which was mostly male. The majority of these men had served in WWI and then took advantage of the GI Bill to go to college. Good for them- but that's where it ends. Thanks to the post war Baby Boom, new schools were opening as fast as they could be built. Demand for teachers was huge and getting hired was as easy as showing your 4-year degree.
I graduated in 1978, and by that time the majority of "old guard" teachers were marking time for thirty years and collecting their pension. I'm not just talking slack, some of these guys were downright lazy and my education was lacking in some very important areas- primarily in English. As an engineer, this would come back haunt me when I had to begin submitted written reports. It is also one reason why I tend to be fussy about grammar here on GAG.
Don't get me wrong; not all of the staff at my HS was lazy. I had some very good teachers who I not only learned from but came to admire for their high standards and work ethics. Even so, lazy teachers coupled with low standards for graduation is not a good mix for any school system.
For this and many other reasons, I maintain that high school students in my cohort received a subpar education.

A good school produces students that can empathize, critique, protect, love, inspire, make, design, restore, and understand almost anything–and then do so as a matter of habit. A good school will connect with other good schools–and connect students, too.

a good school would teach you things you would use later, would teach you how to think not what to think, have lots of time for practical knowledge and hands on displays, and would not move on from a subject until you mastered it.
