There is no such thing as "pure" Capitalism any more than than has ever been pure Communism. Unconstrained Capitalism will always result in corruption as the wealthy seek to undermine government and seize power for themselves. And that's exactly what we have in the USA right now. A government owned by the 1% that hasn't done anything for the other 99% in 50 years. It's anything but "pure". The playing field is anything but level. The wealth gap is growing larger every day. What we have in the US is an extremist Capitalist economic system carefully protected by a handful of Oligarchs to serve their interests and no one else's. I don't see any tangible difference between the USA and the Russian Federation other than a different group of Oligarchs stealing all the wealth.
I think what works is a strong central government that rules a Capitalist economic system with an iron fist and a few socialist programs to manage things that are human rights and should never be put in the hands of a for profit private sector business or billionaires. Things like elections, defense, law enforcement, the courts, the safety of the food supply, education, healthcare, infrastructure, a central bank, a currency, regulatory oversight of the Capitalist economic system, and a retirement savings system like Social Security that the 1% cannot get their greedy sticky little fingers on.
Me? I consult for investment banks, private equity, hedge funds, and businesses that are mostly manufacturing. I know, blasphemous right? Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. 😇
I'm not from USA , and nothing is completely " pure " but what the USA has created is still by a mile the very best system , that's why any company of merit is either created in USA or heads for the USA.
Great public companies that everyone can own a piece of , Where else could Alphabet/ Google been listed? Microsoft / Tesla , Invidia.. and 1000s more..
On any realistic assumption of same performance ( so assuming I had performed the same ) had I been born in USA , my net worth would be x 10 ..
Socialistic agendas stump and destroy growth , they encourage inefficiency, and layers of beauocracy , the entire USA story is built on growth and innovation , it's something to be proud of.
My industry was property development, investment , managed funds , so much opportunity.
Nothing like a potential economist who's been propagandized effectively
I oppose socialism for corporations while dog eat dog, market economy capitalism is forced on common people.
I support safety nets for people: Social Security, Medicare, funding for schools, hospitals, mental health, mass transit, infrastucture, and clean, well staffed national, state and local parks.
I oppose privatization of everything.
I support worker-owned businesses and labor unions.
I support the Eisenhower era progressive income tax.
I oppose our bloated military budget with military bases around the world.
I strongly oppose sending money and weapons to Israel and other countries. That money should be spent to assist American citizens.
So yes, I do support a certain level of "socialism" while retaining the kind of capitalism that allows people to do what they want for a living and spend their money as they wish without being tracked and monitored.
We don't have pure capitalism. We have capitalism with government oversight and regulations. I like it that way, as do most Americans.
I don't own a business. I'm retired now, after working for several publicly traded companies during my career.
@AviatorTom Perfectly said. I agree here as well. I think a better question is about how much regulation is needed.
It would suck having to bribe fire fighters to save your kids but right now with those digital price tags at grocery stores with an AI changing proces to milk every penny that dosen't exist any more. That's a new level of spooky on a day to day level.
We don't have pure capitalism, we have capitalism with government regulation to ensure corporations play fairly and don't take advantage of people, or situations but unfortunately our government does their bidding because they have deep pockets. Ideally I wan't capitalism with regulations that are enforced by a government that represents we the people and not those with the deepest pockets.
Case you haven't noticed, those government regulations are not enforced because the regulators are bribed.
Capitalism is the only answer. All others fail miserable. Socialism and communism look good on paper and in the short run, but always fail it's people, always.
I own my own small business, I keep all my employees happy and well paid.
On my own.
I will refuse to let the government run it into the ground.
I have no clue about US but capitalism was a century ago the survival of the fittest, today's """capitalism""" it's survival of those who own most politician in parliament or/and senate.
the biggest companies in the USA today... are socially funded
and controlled by them... the government
that's our current version of "capitalism"
Taking the word 'pure' out of the question, I'd have to say that no better system has yet come about.
I don't see any downsides to it. However, the US has more socialism and a merger of government and corportations then capilalism
I am good with pure capitalism. I worked in the tech industry.
There is no pure capitalism in the United States. Otherwise you would have no car manufacturers left.
@DryGermanGuy If we did not have tariffs we would have no car manufacturers left
Well I don't want socialism. downside is the loopholes the 1%ers use to get around the system
Still want capitalism, its hard to find that balance of government control so organizations don't control everything, but its its better than the Government sticking their incompetent fingers into everything like in Socialism, Communism, and Fascism.
A Capitalist economy needs reasonable regulation.
Yes, it does. Unfortunately, at this time, the U. S. does not provide any regulation to speak of.
I just want the idiot and his goons out of the white house because they don't have any clue what they are doing
Well the downside of socialism is death and starvation soooo. Yeah capitalism it is
I want free market capitalism. Not the corporatism strangling the US currently
Yes. Capitalism not communism
Definitely want capitalism!
We don't have pure capitalism
Absolutely!
Capitalism!
