Did you know at what temperature water freezes at in 5th grade?

I asked my cousin's kid this question and he did not know. I hate to think how much our kids are not learning because of covid and the teachers union,

Me? no. I used to day dream in school.
I teach it daily. We talk about the weather/temperatures everyday as our morning routine in first grade.
I don’t know what happens between first to 5th grade.

Yeah. 32 F and 0 C. I've always known that. I even knew in the 3rd grade that Celsius is just half of Fahrenheit minus 32. So 100 F minus 32 is 68 and divided by two is 34 C, and that's how you convert them, give or take a few degrees.

Most places now teach to standardized testing which may not include things like that. My kids are only in 2nd and 4th grade but I dont think I've seen temperatures come up just yet. They do get a lot of math and reading homework though. I would suspect it's more of a middle school thing when sciences become more prevalent.

I remember my parents explaining to me in 1990 (6 years old) how ice and ice cream are made because i was obsessed with ice cream back then 😁.

I'm OLD school. That was something my father taught me when I was around 5. Growing up in the frozen Northeast probably helped.

I don't remember which grade I learned that in, honestly. I know that it was part of the curriculum in 8th grade, but I think it was probably something I already knew by then.
