Why are you even on your communications with your company when you're on annual leave? They should know that you're out of the system. A lot of times when I'm away on business just tell them that I do not have access to the internet or phone.

Not at all, unless you're "critical management" or an on-call employee, a vacation is YOUR time, not the company's, you're entitled to your time off.
