Would you rather be a trial attorney a psychoanalyst or a method actor, or novelist & WHY?

Let’s assume for sake of this question your salary will be approx 130,000$ / year (that’s actually higher average of psychologist. Lawyers make slightly less on average than psychologists which was a surprise to me. Actors I know will make not much most often, tho or for a few lucky a TON more than 130K, so I’m just evening it out for the question)

To me, these professions altho holding very different functions in society, require overlapping traits tools & specific skill set. That is why I am grouping them together.

Attorney - No. I would not want to go through law school. Plus I'm too radical and would fight the system every step of the way. I don't think a judge would like me telling a jury to ignore the law and decide for themselves if what the defendant did was right or wrong (jury nullification).

Psychoanalyst - I wouldn't mind doing something similar, but I wouldn't want my head messed up by going through the education requirements.

Method actor - No. I have zero desire to do acting. Plus I would suck at it.

Novelist - By process of elimination this is what I'd pick. I like writing, but I think I'd suck at writing novels. I don't think I could come up with a good story and tell it properly.

Bottom line is that none of these are a good fit for me. My first major at college was forestry. In hind site I still think that would have been a good fit for me. In general, outdoor stuff and working with my hands are good fits. There are some exceptions. I liked working in engineering for example. But then I started as a draftsman and that was working with my hands. I actually miss doing drafting.

Well I read a lot of fantasy books. I have often thought about what I would come up with if I wrote a novel. I just don't think I could come up with a good story. I also don't think I'd be good at "filler" which is most of what a novel is.

Maybe I could have a forest with a personality. They are individuals, but they also have a collective personality. They are also kind of cliquish and snobby at times. :P

When it comes to creative things, I do tend to be better at making existing things better than I am at coming up with the original idea.

In fantasy novels, they are very formula. They follow some very common patterns and memes. It's rare to read something that's really different. Katherine Kerr is an example of a writer with a very different approach.

I'm pretty decent at technical writing, although I haven't done much of it. That's a very different kind of writing than any other type. It's very detailed and structured.

Novelist. Because I think it would suit me the best and I'd enjoy it the most. Also I entered a couple writing contests in school and won both times. I've actually got a story rolling around in my head that is basically a more in depth continuation on one of the stories I wrote in school. I just haven't put it to paper yet.

I would Never want to be a lawyer. While I think I would be good at it I'm far too honest to be able stomach such a job for very long.

A psychoanalyst, while psychology and people in general fascinate me. I would not enjoy analyzing other people's lives. I like to help, but you can't live other people's lives for them. And ultimately people are generally thier own worst enemies. I'd be frustrated by the job very quickly.

Method actor. No interest. I flirted with acting in high school. The drama dept. teacher did not like me, I never got much of a chance to show what I could do. And it isn't a good fit for me anyhow. I'm not a center stage type of person.

A long time ago, summer award from a grant, I worked in a maximum security bob-wired prison/psych center. If you saw Silence of the Lambs, it was that kind of place. I LOVED IT but I stayed on the Complex in a "dorm" with Psychiatrists doing internships or residencies...

The bosses were forty going on 60 worn down and carrying the junk of death row type criminal minds. That was enough "HELLO" for me but if I could rewind I would have gotten training for such a position.

Wow that’s really interesting and yeah very heavy. Death row is toughest for the inmates but I’m sure it wears hard on anyone who is not a sociopath. I think my biggest concern would be the potential questionable character of my peers with that kind of job wackos sometimes are attracted to it— but really does sound fascinating & to have lived in grounds. I would love to live in a work based psychiatric setting to get a feel for it.

These were medical people too and initial attraction was found in Being. The overseeing Essence (Soul)... the Brain (CPU) PET, wiring, imagery... and the developmental effects on Doing/Behavior. Most of the Meds, for the varied Conditions these days. come from work such as this on the Hannibal psychotic crowds.
Getting over the Nazi (WW2) methods... in the name of Science (like Abortion, Today) was immediately difficult.

It is the perfect job if one did not have to embrace the people outside of the Research Lab.

I changed my mind about being a lawyer years ago. I’m still certain i’d be excellent at it, but i’d probably already be dead.
I think i could write, and i could be good at it. But i’ve never really tried outside of “creative writing” classes in skool. I think i could act, but i hate being the center of attention. I’d probably be a good psychoanalyst, but i’d rather apply it to criminal profiling than to helping privileged people forgive themselves for being complete POSs. Ell oh ell!

I want nothing to do with the Bar, which is admiralty/maritime law. It's a corruption of justice.

I don't want to be famous, so acting is out. Plus, being in the film industry is as fraught with danger as is being a successful, professional musician. Industries eat people alive.

Being a psychoanalyst sounds like a drag. Taking on other people's issues would quickly take its toll.

I actually think being a successful writer would be awesome. The ideal career if I had the talent and skill. I actually think I would be good at it if I applied myself. And diving into my world of imagination would be really fun.

when it comes to actors their salary is not always consistent due to the fact of getting work. for psychologists there are many different kinds whether its addiction therapy or PTSD etc. They get paid By # of clients. not to sound prejudicial but all my years interning in the courts I would say trial attorney based on the huge spike in crime over the past 2 years

Trial attorney: I work in the field, and I sit in awe of the brilliance of the good ones. I simply do not have their persuasive capabilities.

Psychoanalyst: I am too cynical and dispassionate for this.

Method actor: I am a crappy liar, and acting is all about convincing people that what is not real is believable. Method acting goes beyond that by requiring identifying with, understanding, and experiencing a character's inner motivation and emotions. As someone who suppresses emotion in a Vulcan-like manner I would not be able to pull this off.

Novelist: I'd probably suck at this, but could possibly pull off a passable product with proper editing.

The mental health counsellor job was more fun but the change you can help most people achieve is not THAT dramatic. Being an attorney is more taxing but getting someone a damage award of $3.4M is much instant gratification/rewarding.

But chess is all about misdirection which in that game requires reading your opponents thought process. This is how you think multiple steps ahead.

If you're playing a seasoned pro, yea it's a little easier you've studied all your openings and memorized all the most common moves for any given situation but even then it's a little strange to say it's not a psychological game.
