+1 yI'd like to learn to fly. Life being what it is, that would probably require a plane or a helicopter, but it'd still be pretty cool. And since I can already operate anything that can go on the road (well, except a tank; my knowledge of that is surprisingly deep, but all theoretical), I just need planes, choppers, and boats, and then I can be the "vehicle guy" if life ever becomes an action movie... and lead our pursuers on the safest, most boring chase EVER. I mean c'mon, I'm still ME.
And I'm still disappointed I'll never get to fly one of THESE puppies:

Im a pilot. Dude, just do it. Becoming an aviator is the most rewarding and liberating feelings in life. Instills confidence. Demands personal discipline and fortitude. And not to mention, chicks ALWAYS fall for pilots. Always.

I love flying and own a plane. Send me private message if you wanna know what to expect, how to start, and what you can do now to prepare for a first flight.

@mobiusforniner It's something I'm looking into; I've even checked nearby airports to see the programs they have. It's still a ways out of my price range, but someday...

I want to be a Kickboxing/MMA master one day. However, being short, my motivation to go to more classes just isn't there, because it seems genetically futile. I just think, 'if I'm already a manlet, what's even the point?' If I was a fully grown size of a man over six feet, I wouldn't be so demotivated.
10 ReplyI learned the principles of flight in the cadets as a kid. I've wanted to get my pilot's license since I was 3.
Not 30. Three years old. First time I saw the film "Reach for the Sky". Douglas Bader's biography.
I'll do it too. I'm 50 now, only got one leg. Bader lost both of his.10 Reply604 opinions shared on Education & Career topic. If something ever happens to me I would switch my career over to a MRI tech. Did you see how much they get paid too and the high demand for them in SoCal right now. They pay 45 to 65 at max cap down here lol and schooling for it Is only 18 to 21 months. It may be useful back up skill for me.

+1 yI would love to learn woodworking. I know the absolute basics, and I don't have much time to practice, nor much room or money to do new things. I have a vice for example, but no space to mount it on my little workshop table.
16 Reply- +1 y
I love making things with wood, but it can get expensive if you build anything big. Plus unless the are really good and talented you won't make much off things you make to make it worthwhile. I used to make stuff for myself because I never could sell stuff and make any money at it, especially if it was a big piece of furniture, like a hutch. You also have to have some place to sell it, but consignment shops sometimes make more money than you because you are the one buying the materials.
- +1 y
@Daniela1982 I do not wish to sell it, it would be mainly things for the house, like chairs or fences, maybe a bigger chicken coop.
- +1 y
Chicken coops do not need a lot of talent to build, as I was at my sister's house and helped build one. It was like 20x10 feet with 2 doors and metal roofing. There are wo hen houses inside and 15 chickens. Trouble is, they lay so many eggs that they have more than they can use.
- +1 y
@Daniela1982 Too many eggs is a good problem in my opinion, we have that every summer. Once I move I am to make one around that size too, a bit smaller but about that size, with swinging doors in the back for easy cleaning and egg removal.
- +1 y
The smaller the coop the harder it is to clean.

Playing cello or violin. I am classically trained in piano and guitar, but stink on bowed instruments so that is a goal.

Hmm... Well, if the bow is the issue, have you tried playing a violin without one? Or a guitar WITH one, for that matter? Or a theremin?

This is actually easier than you think- the basics, anyway- and more immediately useful; the alphabet is 26 one-handed signs you can practice while you brush your teeth, and (especially if you have someone else who's learning it) can come in handy pretty much instantly. Anywhere you can't or don't want to be overheard- passing secret messages during a meeting, watching a sleeping baby, etc- it's not fast (especially at first), but it lets you talk, shows you the importance of nonverbal elements in communication, and reinforces that your efforts are actually going towards something.
Plus, the sign for "good morning" combines la barbe AND the bras d'honneur in one gesture, which means you've got "good morning" and "go to hell" in one sign- talk about convenient! - +1 y
@NamerOfStars Thanks. I know a few expressions, and at one time I knew the alphabet, but if I don't practice a LOT, I get nowhere. I'd have to be with people who used it all the time for a good many months, I believe.
