What would be your reaction to criticisms by close people towards something productive you are trying to do? Them mentioning your past?

I can only give an example from my domain.

A college student, unemployed over 6 months after B. Tech graduation. He/she comes to know about online employability tests for freshers to get grade A/B jobs.

You score among the top people in those exams, and you get more than sufficient salary. And you start preparing for those employability tests.

But your parents, relatives, as usual, give sarcastic remarks directed toward you, judging by your past.

Them unintentionally (parents, not relatives) bringing down your morale for the whole personal project (preparation).

How would you react to this? What would be your attitude? Reaction? Behaviour toward those people?

Never let them get to you when you have a strong inner drive to accomplish all you listed. Don't let yourself resent them in any way as a result of listening to what they have to say in ways that backfire.

Be firm but not antagonistic. Don't let yourself regret what you say to them but also don't let yourself regret what they said to you.

I would tell myself that I need to put some distance between them and me as soon as possible.

This is part of my daily life. I never tell them about my plans or achievements. Keep it yourself. You'll feel better and you'll be more successful.

I think this reaction would give them the satisfaction they sought from their behaviour. This would be an expected reaction.

Move out as quickly as possible. Distance yourself from the toxic relatives. If they don't support you, then they don't deserve to have a relationship with you.
