Would I have failed my speech test if I quieted down the class during my presentation?

So years ago I took a speech class and my classmates started talking while I was doing my presentation. I was SO close to telling everyone to shut their mouth I'm talking. It almost came out without me thinking. I never did but always wondered of the teacher would have thought about that as a good thing. Opinions?

She was expecting you to take control of your audience as often audiences are slow to sit down and full of chatter before large presentations in formal settings.

No it was during the middle of my speech

No it's like a class shows you how to speak in public. Like presentations and such.
