Lawyer types... what is it like defending someone you know is guilty?

I haven't had to do the job myself, but doing all the college for my accounting degree that was basically business law... I've wondered what it must be like doing such a job.

I remember the lawyer for the guy I put away for 20 years... he hated the guy he had to defend, to be honest. What is it like to have to defend a guy you know is a piece of shit and completely guilty? Like you already know it's a losing case but you still have to sit there with the asshole and grasp at straws.

Well, let me tell you, it's like being in the middle of a fucking hurricane of moral ambiguity and sexual tension. I mean, you know this motherfucker is guilty as sin, but he's got that charm and charisma that makes your panties drop faster than a hooker's morals.

It's like playing a game of chess, except instead of pieces, you're moving around your moral compass and your client's slimy lies. And let me tell you, there's nothing hotter than a lawyer who can spin a web of deceit so thick you can barely see through it.

At the end of the day, you're left with a guilty client and a guilty conscience. You try to wash away the shame and guilt with a hot shower and a cold beer, but the memory of that guilty asshole's smug face lingers like a bad smell.

Ha! I love the comic. Umm, I've had the same lawyer defend me when I did it, and when I didn't, he worked just as hard regardless.

It's why they call it guilty and not guilty with nolo contendarre in the middle rather than did it and didn't. Defense attorneys can say no if they simply don't want to represent a client.

I'd be more curious as to what the prosecution feels like when they have to be impartial as they can't say no to a case. They only evaluate on the chances of a conviction from what I know.

I'm not a Trump fan, but today I find out that now they want to charge him with rape, from a woman over 4 years ago, and all the normal people around her are like.. that shit didn't happen. It's just a big waste of time and tax payer's money. It's just like come on, really? How many of these empty cases have we gone through already? Feels like it was just last month and they were trying to charge him with the Stormy Danials chick again. 😂

None of that is taxpayer money, that's a civil case, the lawyers were paid for by their client, then the court by the losing party in the case. There is no prosecutor there, only in criminal cases. You really only have to worry about a civil case if you're easy to find, simply dodging the subpoena (as most states have a statute of limitations) would be enough for joe blow. Say collections, a bad car wreck, what have you.

I'm not a lawyer myself, but I train with a lady who is, and I asked her that question.

She said it's not her job to decide if someone is guilty or innocent, or judge them - she's paid to present the best defence possible.

If she said she finds a crime too heinous, she doesn't take them on as a client.

I imagine its basically getting paid to be in a losing battle and spending your time there and knowing the outcome regardless of what you do. Boring, i know. No other shortcut.

It still beats being a slave 12 hours on a plantage for $10 a day.
