IQ only measures potential?

You can have a high IQ as a 5 year old, but most highschoolers with a lower IQ will be smarter. So IQ doesn't tell how smart you are, it tells how smart you can be if you apply yourself.

This is a question because I don't know if I am right, but I think I am.

Crudely speaking, I think it measures pattern recognition without misrecognition (ex: excluding superstition). Highest IQ people might be social failures, or have mediocre jobs like Marilyn vos Savant (highest recorded person on the planet but just with very pathetic job of writing magazine articles), but they're excellent at recognizing real patterns.

One thing I think is that extroverted high IQ are way, way, way, smarter as we tend to perceive smart than introverted high IQ people. Take Adolf Hitler, for example. He is estimated to have around 140 IQ or so which is way above average, but he is introvert. So he recognizes patterns but he doesn't interact with people, and that's why he was so dumb. He might good at recognizing patterns in collecting data but he was very poor at doing his share collecting his own data.

@misogynistic_pig I've found a lot of criticisms about her like that! Regardless, she seems an exceptional pattern-matcher and puzzle solver. That's the function of IQ as I see it.

Most IQ test divede the resulting point by age, thats why the score gets down as you get older.

And if the IQ test is well made it measures problem solving abilities, which can't be improved, trained, learned... at least thats the definition of intelligence most test use.

There are plenty of MENSA members that are underachievers. Also the Fortune 500 companies always give a little biography about the CEO and there are hardly any that came from Ivy League colleges.
