Should students get a free pass on the backs of taxpayers even though they voluntarily agreed to pay back the money they borrowed, ? Is this fair to the people who already paid the loan back or the student that used private institutions to borrow from?
902 opinions shared on Education & Career topic. It's perfectly fine as long as the government now demands all the money back that went to people who didn't need it for covet aid during COVID. This includes the major corporations that raked in millions of dollars from the government during covet to allegedly pay employees and which they actually spent on buying their own stock back.

I collected unemployment for 18 months because citizens lost my job because of the lockdowns. The system was loaded with fraud and theft. I had to change passwords on the system frequently because the system got hacked so many times. The stateclostctens of millions of dollars due to theft. Now they are try ING to chase people to try and recoup some of the losses. The people they are after are people like me that had a legitimate claim. They assume that they will not fight the state and will just give them the money back.

@msc545 I agree, the amount given to corporations dwarfs assistance they gave to ordinary people. The problem is that the assistance to corporations was generally covered by the law and will not be deemed illegal. Share buybacks used to be banned and should be again. Won’t hold my breath though.

Like, let’s privatize prisons and provide a profit motive to keep people in jail. What could possibly go wrong? And at the same time let’s let giant corporations lobby for regs and subsidies from the government that give them an insurmountable advantage against small business or upstart competitors. We’ll call this a free market. 🤦🏻♂️

@RealMarek I think you make a good, accurate, and chilling point.

Prediction : Democrats will either try to kill some of the Conservative Justices or will stack the court when they cheat Trump again , steal House and Senate.

I am afraid that they will try to intimidate the Suprrme Court justices. Maybe threaten their families. The FBI won't do anything to stop them and they know it.
I also think as the election gets closer and all the cases against President Trump fall apart they might have him killed instead - 1 y
Yep, and if he got elected somehow. He will be doing the JFK shuffle soon after

That's not what the Supreme Court ruled. They didn't say the president doesn't have the authority to cancel student debt. They didn't even address that. They ruled that he improperly applied the HEROES Act. That's not the same thing.
The HEROES Act allowed for the delayed payment, or forgiveness of debt, for certain people during times of war or national disaster. It was strongly bipartisan. It was passed during the Bush 2 administration with a unanimous vote in Congress. You can't get more bipartisan that that. The deadline was extended multiple times, then made permanent - all with a unanimous or near unanimous vote.
It was properly invoked and extended by Trump multiple times during COVID, which was declared a national emergency. That was the purpose of the Act in the first place.
What the court ruled was that the Biden administration could not invoke the HEROES Act at a time when there was neither war nor a national disaster. So the ruling was about application of a specific law, not a broad ruling on whether the president has the authority to cancel debts.

You have three different questions here, so I am not sure how to answer the poll:
1. Was the Court Ruling proper in Constitutional Law terms? YES, because that has to be done legislatively and not by executive order. (That would be an awful piece of legislation, but that's not the question there)
2. Should students get a free pass on the backs of taxpayers? Oh hell NO, certainly not for their Bogus Studies degrees.
3. Is this fair to the people who already paid the loan back or the student that used private institutions to borrow from? Oh hell NO, certainly not.I hope this helps. :D

I voted YES, the ruling is just. No one should be forced to pay for someone else's degree or certificate. Many people took other measures to avoid that debt and it's not fair to make them pay for someone else's choice to take expensive classes.
50 Reply Instead of making taxpayers pay the loans back, let’s hurt the entities that really benefitted from it: college administrations. They lobbied for increased student loans and jacked up tuition in response to every increase in loan availability. The USG helped by making it almost impossible to clear bad student debt through bankruptcy and underwriting the loans, eliminating any risk for the banks. Hyperinflation in tuition was the result. Biden actually admitted as much. My plan: Make colleges clear the debt from their endowments. To the extent that isn’t enough, take the rest from the banks that originated the loans. Do this without touching taxes. Believe me, the hyperinflationary spiral in tuition would stop immediately as would the skyrocketing ratio of school administrators to instructors.

I'm okay with paying my loans back, I think most of us are, it wasn't something a lot of us even asked for. It was something politicians were using in the campaign, Bernie Sanders wanted to do complete loan forgiveness. I think what I and other borrower's want is to have repayment plans be more reasonable. When the interest keeps adding to the principal that borrowers end up having to pay three of four more times the amount they borrowed it makes one wonder how borrowing from the government is more beneficial than borrowing from banks and private lenders. So I do like that there will be a new repayment plan to stop runaway interest from adding to the principal.

I would think student debt falls under the same rules of bankruptcy. if kids partied, studied masters is frog analysis or cockroach theory and can't find a job, anywhere or anything, then they go bankrupt, their credit is crap, adn start fresh. Dave Ramsey went bankrupt so can they.
Waive a magic wand and wipe it away, I don't understand that. It's BS when they do it for corporations as well... I think that's the guise of this..."fairness". it's always screwing someone when they do this.
00 Reply 391 opinions shared on Education & Career topic. just for clarification are you asking if that is the court's decision, or do I agree with the court's decision.
I agree with the decision.
You took out the loan, you went and got an education, you are an adult, so honor your debt.
It isn't up to me to pay back your debt.
Just like you are not making my truck payments, or my house payments because all of a sudden, I don't think that it is fair that I have to pay off the debt that I created.20 Reply- 1 y
I guess the supreme court has the authority to do so,... but i don't agree with this.
This meme sums up the student loan forgiveness discussion perfectly.00 Reply - 1 y
SCOTUS is correct. There is nothing in the Constitution or any law that gives the President the power to forgive student debt. That would have to be legislated into law, and there's no way Congress would ever agree to do that.

I think it's just a ploy to get votes, just like reparations in California. But if not, how can anyone with a functional brain think it's OK for the carpenter to have to pay for the debt of the doctor? My response to this question when it comes up is; if you don't want to fulfill your promise to the bank, then don't. Just don't ask the gardener to bail you out. Just tell the bank you refuse to pay. Keep it between you and the bank.
00 Reply I explained why it was illegal before the election, but commies are dumb as rocks...
00 ReplyEveryone before has had to pay back their student loans why should this generation get out of their responsibility working hard and paying it back will build character and they might even learn a few more important skills that college can't teach

No but is it fair for parents that already put their own kids through college to have to pay for everybody else's kids? And how is this going to work going forward. Is it just a one time political stunt to buy votes for the democrats or is this going to happen every year? It will cost trillions once people know they can take on these loans and not pay them back. And colleges can hire more useless administrators at big salaries because it does not matter how much tuition is.

About as fair as my tax dollars paying for PPP relief for the very members of congress who voted against student relief.
Only Congress has the purse strings. Only Congress can spend money or waive debts that size. It’s taught in Elementary School so this isn’t hard stuff to understand.
00 Reply453 opinions shared on Education & Career topic. I have an idea. Just a loud thought.
Why don't the US Government invent a program, so that students can dedicate a fraction of their tax money to pay off student loans?

If they give back the degree the purchased yes

A degree that isn't worth the paper its printed, colleges stopped teaching how to think and went to what to think indoctrination centers is all they are now
Seriously in the real world what type of job are you going to get with a gender studies degree
Might as well use it as toilet paper - 1 y
True it all comes down to the choices ones makes but I should have to pay for someone to go to college and figure things out in life I had to pay back my loans and so had everyone that ever took one out and these. kids nowadays should've get a free ride , they need to learn hardship and going without the struggle to pay bills thsts what college can never teach only life

@peedy it's amazing when I think about all the people I know who use their college degrees to flip burgers
Joe Biden is getting desperate for voters. he needs irresponsible students to vote for him

OK the question and the description of the question are going to lead to confused votes. The question asks if it is right, the body asks if we should pay for it. In that case you cannot vote yes or no..
It's wrong for us to pay for others debt, it's right for scotus to overturn bidens bull shit.
