+1 yLike some of the others, I can't say I've ever had an embarrassing job either. But I've had lots of jobs from working on cars as a mechanic in high school and pumping gas, giving rides on a hot air balloon, working as a waiter in a fancy restaurant (I did that for one night and quit... wasn't for me), being a bouncer in a bunch of different bars in college, having my own business installing telephone equipment, doing maintenance work in an apartment complex, carpentry, working for a major cosmetics company in their business offices, having my own business selling jewelry, working in marketing and advertising, being a financial analyst, managing an information technology department, and finally becoming a chief financial officer. There were other jobs too... can't list them all. But I don't think any of them were "embarrassing."

Delivery company named "LSO".
We delivered packages to people around the area. "But Rose, how is that embarrassing? I expected like a sex orgy business." Because it was embarrassing to work there. We had shit vans, shit systems of planning and it was not a happy place. It was embarrassing because we were nobodies tried to make somebody... happy. Unfortunately, no one will remember who we were.

Umm mine was working at a boba shop, people from high school I went to years ago would see me. They say you shouldn’t be ashamed of your job but dam every time I see them I feel shame for some reason
12 Reply- +1 y
No shame in that. It's an honest job. Shame is degrading yourself.

No bc why would they say that

+1 yWorking at a Starbucks. I got it after the first time I lost my health insurance and my friend convinced me the benefits there were worth it.
Back then I worked two jobs while running a young business. But no matter what I was doing, I was thinking about how some part of my day was going to involve wearing that stupid apron, taking orders from people who were mostly crazy and unreasonable, working with a bunch of people I saw as children and maybe the worst part ironically was that I was really good at it lol
I spent every day thinking about how it would all be worth it in the end. One day I'd be with people I consider friends making amazing shit.

Which means I walked around sweeping the streets of the park, emptying garbage cans, and the real exciting part when someone threw up on a ride I got to go clean it up.😂 Let me tell you, you haven't lived till you've seen the many different colors and textures of vomit that can come from being turned into a human mixing glass from an amusement park ride. I think the most impressed I was was when this guy one got off a particular ride (wasn't even that violent of a ride) and instead of running to the exit, he ran clean around the ride. The dude threw up 22 times!!! I don't even know how a person throws up that much without passing out.😂 ahhh good times!😂
10 ReplyThankfully, I haven't had in embarrassing job. But I have worked room service at a hotel. That was a pretty low job. Not that room service is like that in general, but this particular one was..
Also, whenever I see your username I think of the redhead guy in the movie Rundown, yelling it out right before the Rock emerged.14 Reply- +1 y
Just saw the movie clip lol. I just thought it was a universal word.

Makes me think of the game NBA Jam for Sega Genesis. The announcers sometimes yelled "BOOMCHAKALACA" if you did a nice dunk in the net.

Yes someone mentioned that before 😅

I've done all sorts of things in my life, grew up on a farm, truck driver, heavy equipment operator, truck mechanic, firefighter/emt, work at a racetrack on the safety team.

I had to take a job washing dishes at a big restaurant to pay rent. I moved my way up to prep cook, bus boy, and barback. Before I quit, I was teaching the new managers how to shut down the restaurant.

Thats so interesting. I actually hav 2 interviews tomorrow for line cook. I hope to be in management or sous chef. what was it like working in the kitchen?
When I was younger and worked at the grocery store. It was only embarrassing if I got into random conversations with people at events or in public about very intellectual things, and they would seem surprised and ask me where did I work or where I went to school. Telling them was embarrassing lol. But as a grown man now I look back on that job and really see how it honestly was not that bad and had its perks.

@Boomchakalaca
It certainly isn't the easiest of employments to get into, but please keep at it and I'm sure eventually you will reap the benefits.
You might even have to start looking further afield from your home area. - +1 y
Yeah I've been interested in other jobs that are out of my home field. I have been interested in culinary positions, but pay is sucky and overworked hours.
All my job passions are in low paying fields
+1 yUnemployment, criminality, and sex work are the only embarrassing types. Janitors, garbage men, cashiers, and other such employment isn't "embarrassing". They're making money legitimately.

Currently a University Prof but my favourite jobs growing up was working on a farm and doing groundskeeping on a golf course. Loved working outside. Nothing embarrassing about hard manual labour.

@Sasha0426 Completely agree. They should feel even worse about it than the person giving the service.

+1 yPeople don't judge anyone here for their jobs. It's because people here just lacks the options and support. We have to do whatever it takes to survive the our corrupt society. I worked once as a collage custodian once and that was already considered an opportunity. That would've been embarrassing for people living in first world countries.
