With the economic recession the IT industry in my country has taken a severe blow.

I went to office today and got the news that one of my friends got laid off. There's very little margin of error in our jobs now. If you mess up, kiss your job goodbye.

Sadly, he wasn't even given his notice period. Take the lump sum basic pay and quit at once.

UK fortunately has laws to prevent immediate dismissal in most cases but the risk of redundancy or dismissal with notice period remains.
No-one is irreplaceable and it's something we should be prepared for at all times, particularly if we have dependents.

I just got moved to a new project. I'm actually working how to company that's mostly Indian as well, but my hope is this project has more staying power. We shall see.
