If you had an item that could be fixed by replacing a part, would you take time to repair it or get a new one instead?

I would repair the item. I do it all the time when possible. Renew, reuse, recycle. I don't like to just throw things away unless they are no good. That's why I don't like many electronic appliances. They have built in obsolescence and can't be repaired.

It depends on how important or necessary it is, whether it needs fixing.

If it does...

I almost always try to fix it, and I'm usually successful. When I'm not, I sometimes try to get an expert to fix it, before discarding it and getting a replacement.

Yes, I have an original Baracuta jacket that I got in high school. Ten years later the cheap nylon zipper failed. I was in the police uniform business so I had one of our seamstresses replace it with a nice new brass zipper. I wore that jacket for many years after that until it no longer fit me,. Now my son is wearing it.

If the item was cheap, I would get a new one, if the part was inexpensive and the item was a little pricey, fix it!
