For most of my working life there was no such thing as HR. But most of those duties had to be done by somebody, usually spread out among 2-3 different people.

I've never figured out what they do either, especially in companies with less than 100 employees. Maybe they are doing something I just don't know about, but I can't imagine what it is. I'm sure the HR people themselves rationalize it somehow. I know I've never seen an HR person work overtime. They go home when the people doing the actual work stay for several more hours.

I think this crap started when getting MBAs got popular. Instead of using common sense to run a business, people started getting MBAs and actually believing all that stuff they teach. If I found out someone with an MBA is running a company, I know I probably won't want to work there.

It seems like nowadays "overhead" becomes a bigger and bigger part of business.

HR is like Army S1. It's somewhere where the people end up with no marketable job skills, despite the fact that the HR description (that it SHOULD be not what it IS) would lead one to believe that it would be some real high speed people.

Put a trained chimp and a couple therapy dogs in a box with no tools and some food and you'd get a more useful office at 99% of the establishments out there. It's like all those worthless business management graduates the 80s and 90s popped out that couldn't even balance a checkbook (when that was really a thing) or all the people with gender studies degrees now. One of my HR people has that degree. Guess how essential she is.

Probably. The purpose of HR in my view is to gain enough evidence on you to eventually fire you when needed, they pretend to be on the employees side but are really like the gestapo.

HR is a profession that was made artificially in order to create more jobs. Like many other jobs, its a useless one. HR only works in huge corporations where they need to hire professional people on day to day basis.
