Whyl are guys so bad at school?

Like 99% of the intensive and regular classes are male, but most honors and AP classes are full of females. Do guys not care about academic education? Or are all young men hyperfocused on drugs, sleeping around, and wasting away in their rooms?

All I’m hearing is excuses. The real world isn’t going to cater to your every little need. There are plenty of engaging and stimulating courses and activities available for males in schools. They just don’t care. They’d rather Google everything so they can hurry and screw their 78th fling.

It is easy to forget that a few generations ago. Some 50 years. Women were underperforming. By a lot.

The response was a near worldwide social and educational reform to make school a better and more suitable environment for girls. We changed how we teach. What we teach. The pedagogical practices, attitudes and more. You and I were not alive when this happened. But it did happen.

The result? Women did progressively better. We have since then kept implementing tools to help and enable women. And now we have hit a point where women are wildly outperforming men academically.

It is by design. We, our parents and grandparents, made it so. It isn't that boys are bad at school. There is nothing to support men are any worse at absorbing knowledge. We simply reformed schools to better fit girks without caring about if they fit boys.

Many people more vested in previous educational reforms are now asking for a similar initiative to help boys do better again. Because we know how well the changes work. And whether boys or girls do better? We as a society can change and choose. Right now we are choosing that girls get a better environment that suits them. Its not made up. Its just how it is.

I never liked school. I resented authority and I did not get along with too many of the other kids. That all spilled into the academic part of it.

It's not that they don't care. It's that boys (younger kids and older teens included) don't thrive in a school environment. Not exciting/fast paced enough for them. Boys are just as smart (If not more) than girls tho when put in the right type of learning environment. This is something that really makes me sad having sons. Schools need a different way of teaching to keep the boys wanting to learn. It's honestly strange that they assume everyone learns the same way. Almost like they are setting it up for more boys to fail in school...

Exactly! Boys learn by being active and doing things outside. Not being stuck in a classroom for 7 hours a day.

I can’t say I agree. Even in fast paced environments, they fail to succeed. (At least in my school.) I've seen so many males who are college bound and consecutively fail easy courses like algebra year after year after year…Oh well. There will always be sports scholarships.

@huntersawyer22 yes boys are meant to be outside. And they would rather learn a acutal skill then the knowledge so hands on learning is better because it can teach both and keep them interested

@Apple1996 Yep. Boys especially are not meant to be stuck inside all day. But unfortunately our (American) education system (which is designed for how girls learn) fails to recognize this.

@huntersawyer22 yeah I'm adhd so I know how it is to not want to sit still to learn. Didn't get diagnosed till adulthood so I kind of struggled in school the same way as the boys did

@huntersawyer22 my kids had male teachers last year and did so well. It definitely helps some kids to have their own gender teaching them

I will not be able to comment unless I see a statistic about this. Because this situation is quite different in Scandinavia.

When I was in school, the reverse was true. I think it's just random and depends where you are and when you went to school.

Because we don't generally need to go because we often end up in manual labour fields

No to mention the incredibly liberal environment is very quick to show its hand on wanting to kill all men and such things

I am not bad at school. I've never gotten less than an A in anything in my life so far.

I was jealous of those guys too. I was also jealous of kids that had parents that could send them to fancy schools and live on campus. I had to go to a crappy commuter school and every semester I had to sweat having enough to pay tuition
