In the workplace, it's impossible not to be fake. Yes or no?

Only if you don't want to get anywhere. The key is not to lick EVERYONES boots. But knowing who's boots to lick, and what way to lick them.

I always loved this scene from American Beauty when Lester basically quits on life and regresses to re-living his teenage years. Because I think all guys can relate to it a bit. Those days of flipping burgers for minimum wage might have sucked. But nothing mattered back then. There was no corporate games to be played. No deadlines to meet. You made minimum wage but life was just partying and getting laid. And your whole life was ahead of you.

Some people fake it but deep down when you have people leave you do miss of the good things they did. My manager died during COVID-19, and even though I used to order him and be angry I felt unhappy he is not here anymore. He had been loyal to us for 27 years. And unofficially we still send his wife pension. It's not required under low but we do it anyway for him. Paid his funeral expenses too and write off his loans to us

I try not to be fake. Mostly I just do my job and try to stay out of trouble.

Yeah I think you have to fake tolerate people you wouldn't give the time of day outside of work.
