Why is finding a job so difficult in 2023 America?

I was laid off and finding a decent job has been the most difficult and challenging things I've had to endure. Don't get me wrong, I've been in thus boat a few times. Employers are getting way demanding on everything. Exp. I had a phone screening, then recorded a video interview then was invited to a Zoom, passed that and finally invited to do a presentation!! I was successful at that too. Still waiting back. My field is Admin. I've been applying to low end jobs like Trader Joes and was denied! OMG

What had happened?

Jobs are easy to find, and always have been (during my lifetime). Unemployment peaked around 2009-10. It peaked even higher in 1982. Jobs were easy to find during both of those peaks.

If you want a specific kind of job, at a high wage, in a particular location, that's a different story. If you are going to be selective, there is nothing wrong with that. But if you are being selective, it's hard to claim that jobs are hard to find in America.

Hard to find means you've applied for an absolute minimum of 500 jobs. But even that is on the low side. If you reach a thousand, then it's time to move someplace else because the local market sucks. If you haven't applied for hundreds of jobs, then either you are too selective, or just haven't been trying hard.

Yes, looking for a job is work in itself. You don't get something for nothing. You have to work for it, and that includes looking for a job.

Unemployment is VERY low right now - the lowest in my lifetime by quite a bit. Companies are practically begging for employees. Wages at the low end of the market are skyrocketing as a result. Companies are not even getting applications because unemployment is so low.

Job hunting is not difficult right now. The exact opposite. It's just that people's expectations have gotten so high.

Finding a job isn’t difficult if you take the time to look but finding an employer to hire you could be different story. As for you your field is in administration & in some areas that field could limit you or might not be available as of the moment.

As for you I’m sorry to hear your former employer laid you off & being that they laid you off the good thing is you are able to collect unemployment in America & hopefully you were smart enough to file & collect for the time being.

On the flip side the holidays are approaching & if truth be you might want to apply holiday employment or go to a temp agency & ask for assistance.

You need a job that pays, you need a job that has benefits, you need a job that has a retirement program & you might have to relocate to do so. Think about a job in industry or manufacturing & maybe you can work your way up into administration.

There are lots of jobs around but not too many that pay enough to live in Bidens America. Last month Biden bragged about how many jobs he created. The part he left out is that you need two of them to make ends meet.

they have had so many chances to get things fixed but they just continue to not. the rich don't care so long as they still have their slave labor. I mean work force. when they start losing that then maybe people will start paying attention. I am in the midst of transitioning from the US to Europe despite paying my staff very well (well above minimum and even above a livable wage) I don't feel comfortable living in a country where people are left homeless when we have more than enough houses that are owned by the banks to house all of them, when we have the funds to take care of our citizens and instead send trillions over seas to fight in proxy wars we have no business being in etc

😅 I didn't mean to say it bluntly. Sorry, you had it rough. Didn't you know about this before? If you are Pakistani or Indian, they give you max 3000 Dirham there, if you are fresh European or American graduate they give you 20,000 to 25000 Dirhams, even a Pakistani with Canadian work permit or Citizenship can earn 15K. It's sort of discrimination but you can earn a lot. Only disadvantage for Americans, their global income is taxed in UAE and US. US taxes global income even if it's paid for in host country.

Anyhow, at your age, shouldn't you be more concerned about marriage?

The average household loses 6000 dollars due to inflation. May e the CPI has slowed from the 9 percent it was last year but that does not mean prices have gone down. They have just not gone up to the 40 year high that we had last year. Everything is still too expensive for the middle class. The economy grew 4 9 percent but if you take inflation into account it has shrunk. The economy is bad and not good. Credit card debt is well over a trillion dollars. Most credit cards have interest rates 15-25 percent interest. What happens when people start to default on those debts?

From 2008-2009 I was without a job. It was a rough year for me. I applied for many jobs and had many interviews.
