Not at all. Maturing has little to do with what life passion they will focus on. At your age range it’s very common for young men to be more focused on the fun of physical activity than academics but it’s not necessarily a lack of awareness about how important education is.

You could say girls do better in all subjects in almost countries, but it is scientifically proven that neither gender is smarter. Let's start with that, that is what matters. You can also say guys are smarter cause they get into liberal arts less, thus making more later on. But what makes girls get better grades is that they tend to be more organized about schoolwork and tests. If a guy put his energy into it he'd do the same.
