Start reading newspapers and magazine and reference sites.
As you read, you will come up with questions. Track down the answers to those questions... which will then cause you to have more questions, etc.

Todd Combs, an investment lieutenant at Berkshire Hathaway, got great advice the first time he encountered his current boss, Warren Buffett, in 2000, the year he started his MBA at Columbia Business School. The Oracle of Omaha was speaking to Combs and 165 other students during an investing class.

In response to a question about how to prepare for an investing career, Buffett told the students, “Read 500 pages like this every day,” while reaching toward a stack of manuals and papers. “That’s how knowledge works. It builds up, like compound interest. All of you can do it, but I guarantee not many of you will do it.”

Read a lot, pick up a hobby.

The only way to become more Intelligent with or without effort is to learn.

The process of learning reshapes the connections in the brain and sort of forces it to create new neurons.

Wooow great question, I'm impressed.

Anything will help, but try to learn a variety of things and try to learn them well. This is why I always like to say a hobby.

Let's just say the hobby you picked was skateboarding. You're going to learn about how tight or loose the trucks need to be, as your body weight changes, you're intuitively going to understand how the stiffness affects the ride, you're going to learn about controlling your body and balance etc.

These all hit different areas of the brain which if you're an office guy, you're probably not used to having these areas of the brain communicate with eachother.

Now when you go to learn to ride a snowboard or go surfing or balance on something etc. You've strengthened these areas of your brain in a way that even though you've never done it before, it's intuitive to you. Some people this comes very naturally but it is the difference between knowledge and intelligence.

I like to think of it as you're adding a new perspective to look at things through, a new operating mode in the mind. This works for anything. I suggest picking things you're interested in but you can do anything you think you might be weak in.

Just remember with reading, it's not enough to just memorize knowledge, you need to learn how what you're doing works to the point that you have opinions about it. That's how you know you actually understand it and your brain is processing information instead of recalling it, which does not help intelligence as much.

Intelligence is like grain, you have to process it and bake it before you can eat it. A brain is an empty template, no matter how high tech the gear is, you have to put data onto the template or your template is worthless. The process of paving your template is arduous and hard, regardless of how high your skill level is.

You are born with basic intelligence. You can increase the amount of knowledge by learning (reading is a good idea), and it will affect your verbal intelligence level.

However, it does not affect non-verbal intelligence, which is also called problem-solving intelligence.

In my opinion, intelligence is an inherent trait and not something you can train. You can study to gain knowledge on topics. But your intelligence is already wired since you're born. Yes you can train your mind to be a bit faster in certain areas, like memory using flash cards. Or pattern recognition by subjecting yourself to patterns. But everyone has their starting points and limits for those parts of their brain.

I've heard that we can't make significant changes to intelligence but maybe constantly taking in difficult data & being more critical in thought will help to raise it a little?

But the good thing is that most people have a good amount of capacity to still learn & become good at things. So, rather than trying to raise your general intelligence level, you might be better off trying to become more competent in something you're naturally talented in.

intelligent is not wisdom nor smart, so only nature. no change. just keep learning new skills and reading paper books to use mind.

we naturally weaken intelligence at age 35 peak and drop, myself included like your age, so keep reading and maybe learn a rubik cube and practice it once a week to remember the patterns. or some other think challenge.
