The best is to find people you already know there - like from school, previous workplaces, etc.
There are also people who have the word "influencer" inside their description; they mostly accept all invitations.
Look for people in your area, in the companies you want to work for, with similar occupations.
Writing a short message about why you want to connect with a totally unknown person would increase your chances of being accepted. A lot of people, including me, ignore empty invitations...

Start by connecting with everyone you work with and all business associates you come in contact with through work.
I have used Linked In for many years and I only connect with people I have met through work. I get tons of requests but I have to have met the person before I will add them.
What is the purpose of having a large connection on there? I use it only for work purposes and it's mostly to track business friends as they move to different companies over the years.
