What are some ways to look for jobs?

It depends on the type of job you want. When I wanted an entry level minimum wage job, I would walk along a path that had dozens or hundreds of retail stores nearby and hand out one resume per retail shop. After submitting around 6 dozen resumes in a single day in 2 hours of walking, I would get 4 interviews within 4 weeks and 2 of them would hire me or offer me a job. If you are looking for something that is more professional and clustered, using typical websites is good.

My friend told me you want your boss to think you are intelligent but stupid enough to believe everything he says. No boss wants an employee that can compete with him. My dad got his job cause he was intelligent but spoke terrible English and the boss wanted a reliable employee that would never steal her management position. All his co workers also speak terrible English, cause the boss does not want an employee who can steal her management job. I had a boss who loved my job performance that refused to act as my reference when our team did a great lay off cause she was jealous I spoke better English than her and had more upward mobility potential then her at future jobs I worked at.

Aside from that, my dad says bosses like you more when you speak slowly at interviews, it gives them the impression you are a confident and calm and an easy going person who is patient, understanding and willing to listen, and not just speak and be heard.

For job promotions, I find team players who don't brag or show off and are kind and supportive of others are more likely to get promoted then people who get lots of attention for doing a good job. People who choose to stand out do not get promoted cause they are viewed as high drama and neurotic and anti social.

It depends what you are after. Even an email asking if they have any jobs can go a long way and show that you have an interest in the job.
