I was supposed to start working a few days ago, but I did not start because I had to completed a I-9 form with my employer and I could not get a hold of anyone until day four. after the form was complete, I asked the manager if I would be starting that day she said she didn’t know and she would reach out to me later in the day. she did not contact me so I contact her the next day and asked her again if I would be starting that day. And again she said she did not know and she will reach out to me but I did not hear from her. The next day I decided not to reach out and give her time to figure out what day I would be starting.
I still have not heard anything back from her and I will be contacting her in a few hours should I start looking for jobs If she still doesn’t know my start date? I feel like I’m wasting my time I don’t know if this is normal or not my past jobs were working home jobs when I went to the interview, it was rushed. She barely gave me any information about the job. I still don’t know what my off days are and it seems like she doesn’t know anything about the job every time I ask her a question she always says she doesn’t know if she will reach back out to me which she never does.

Honestly girl, I'd take that manager not knowing your start date as a bad sign. If they were really excited to hire you, they wouldn't be leaving you hanging like that.
I'd say at this point start passively looking for another option, just in case. Give her one more call later today to ask for an update, but be ready to keep moving forward if she still can't commit.
Some red flags here - should've been smoother onboarding if they really wanted you. Management not being organized is never good. And rushing the interview is sus too, like maybe they're desperate to fill the spot but not for the right candidate.
Don't wait around on this job indefinitely if they can't respect your time. You deserve clear communication from the start. Get out there and see what else you can find in the meantime. No point stressing over a "maybe" opportunity if something more solid comes along! Keep your head up.
Honestly this very common practice... hiring manger don't set the start dates. Most of that comes through HR, and depending on how much hiring they are doing to can take a while.
She said she would reach out to, but you keep going back to her every other day... I mean as a hiring manger, that would make reconsider my choices... because you might not be a good fit.
Once a hiring manager tells you they will get back to when they know, then the best thing you can do is just sit and wait. Maybe check in where once a week.
" I am just checking in to see if there are any updates. Thanks." Once a week or so no more. If she replies, then you are still in the green. If she goes slight, then she had moved on from you.
If it's like that before actually starting imagine how low your hours will be when you are relying on a paycheck to make ends meet. I would have been out there beating feet after that first weak response.
